'Sleeping Beauties"

I sat on the other side, on the edge of the Salt River in Arizona for at least an hour, watching these three sleep.

They were knee deep in the middle of the river, and also deep in sleep, with just the occasional twitch of an ear or nose.

Peace.

Today, in honor of International Puppy Day, Patrick introduced their new 10-year-old "puppy," Rusty!

Rusty was surrendered to a rescue group in Texas when his guardian could no longer care for him. His adoption journey continued when volunteers transported him up to Brooklyn. At the time, we were looking for a new family member and found him listed on Petfinder. After the approval process, we had a meet-and-greet in a local cafe. It was love at first sight.

Rusty is a Jack Russell terrier mix: a true mutt with a bit of a stubborn streak and a big heart. At 25 lbs, Rusty may be small-ish, but he’s big on personality. And boy, he’s cute. Like most Jacks, at 10 years old he is still in his puppy stage with plenty of joy and love to give.

Rusty is an important reminder of why adoption matters — so many great senior dogs like him are out there waiting for a second chance. It's a big win-win for everyone when you bring them into your life. Happy International Puppy Day to dogs of all ages!

Imagine a world where wild animals were loved, respected and free from harm.

Imagine a world where we never lost the innocence we had as children, a time when wide-eyed curiosity and adoration for animals had yet to be tainted.

Imagine a world where people put down their guns, disposed of their poisons and their traps, and instead found joy in the presence of wild things.

Imagine a world where mankind no longer felt the need to 'manage' wildlife, instead allowing wildlife to exist in balance, as it has done since the beginning of time.

Imagine. Hope. Dream.

Three of the most powerful words in the English language.

Thank you to everyone who believes that this world is possible.
