We want to involve the community in our efforts to care for the animals. We WANT and NEED Volunteers - to walk the dogs, play with the cats, foster animals until we find a permanent home for them, help with fundraisers and adoption events, cleaning cat cages at the Muncie PetSmart, caring for the animals at the shelter. e welcome and VERY MUCH APPRECIATED. We are ALWAYS in need of items such as bleach, pine sol, laundry detergent, dish soap, paper towel, trash bags, scoopable litter, toys for cats and dogs, metal food bowls, blankets, towels, sheets, pillow cases, snacks for the animals, and really anything that you would use for your pets at home! Monetary donations and gift cards are great as well. We are an adoption partner with PetSmart. We attend adoption events at Muncie, Fort Wayne (Marysville Road), Carmel, and Noblesville PetSmart locations. We are very rescue friendly and are grateful to the rescues in their efforts to help us with our animals. We do require a signed contract with the rescues we work with. We are located at 2520 N. 200 E. Hartford City. The shelter is staffed seven days a week. However, we are closed to the public on Mondays and Wednesdays. Hours for the 5 other days of the week are 10:30-12:30 and 4:30-6:30. Appointments for hours outside of these times and days can also be made! After hours please leave a message and your call will be returned as soon as possible. Emergency ONLY please call the Blackford County Sheriff Department at 765-348-0930.

Had more kitties dropped off at the shelter sometime this morning. They were here when we arrived for work. Whoever dropped them off here did leave a donation that should cover the cost of one spay, but this still isn't right, or legal. Please only bring animals to the shelter during business hours, 10am - 5pm.

We want to thank Debbie Layman Smith for her donation today. We appreciate it!

Princess came to us as a bashful and timid girl. She was too scared to walk out of a room on her own and she was too scared to go outside on a lead. She has been with us for 6 weeks and her confidence is growing at an amazing rate. She is strong and brave and loves being close to her people. If you have a lap, she will sit in it. If you have a pizza, she will share it with you. Princess originally did well with other pets but now after being at the shelter for a while she has decided that she would rather be the only dog. She is 1.5 years old and will be a loyal pup to anyone that is lucky enough to adopt her. Look at that gorgeous smile!

Monty is a sweet orange kitten with a truly special story. He was found trying to survive the winter, and he had teamed up with another litter’s kitten named Mouse to stay warm and safe. Thanks to that friendship, he’s grown into a loving, gentle boy.

Monty is as sweet as they come. He loves cuddling with his feline friends that hare the same free roam room with him. He enjoys playing with ropes and toys, and he’s known for getting into silly situations, like sticking his head where it doesn’t quite fit!

Monty just turned one year old and still looking for his forever home.

Hi, my name is Muffin (sometimes called "Mr. Muffin Man") and I am looking for a forever family. Here's a little about me: I absolutely love to cuddle and sit on laps. I get along very well with other cats and I am roughly 7 years old.. I was a neighborhood cat hanging for a few years. I really love being around people. Sometimes, I may hide, but that is usually because I am taking a nap! So, if you want a handsome, extra affectionate cat... Fill out an application and come meet me!

This awesome family comes to the shelter quite often and treats the dogs to some playtime in our play yard. The dogs get so excited! They love getting out of their runs. While at the shelter, they met Peter. This boy, among others, won their hearts! Peter went home with them on a foster to adopt today. Let's hope that him and his new doggy siblings get along well so Peter can have a forever home with this amazing family!

Buddy is back at the shetler and he is ready to try again. He came to us originally after being found not far from our building tied up by the railroad tracks. He was a total mess when he came in and wanted to spend his days curled up in a ball with fear of the world and people around him. That was almost 2 years ago. Buddy is now more confident with people and outside experiences but he is still unsure of some actions or situations. He needs a quiet, calm home to spend his days in where he can rediscover himself and experience love gradually so he can relax and understand that harm is a thing of his past. Buddy is around 4 years old, a good traveler, seems good with most people and dogs and does well in a social environment that is fairly calm. Slow and steady introductions will be the key to Buddy's success.
