🐾 Recovery Update: Poe
Meet Poe, a Chesapeake Bay Retriever who was referred to HRVSS by Dover Animal Hospital for a torn ACL in his left knee.
A torn ACL can make everyday activities uncomfortable, leading to limping, difficulty standing, and less enjoyment of walks, playtime, and other favorite activities. For active dogs like Poe, restoring comfort and stability can help them get back to doing what they love.
Dr. Pete Baia performed a left TPLO surgery to stabilize Poe’s knee and support his recovery.
✨ We’re happy to share that Poe is healing well and making excellent progress on his road back to an active, happy life. 💙
👉 Signs to watch for: If your dog is limping, favoring a back leg, struggling to stand, or avoiding stairs and jumping, it could indicate a knee injury. Talk with your veterinarian about whether a referral to HRVSS for a surgical consultation may be appropriate for your pet.
A special thank-you to Dover Animal Hospital for entrusting us with Poe’s care. 🐾

🐾 Recovery Update: Coco

Some patients steal hearts the moment they walk through the door, and Coco was definitely one of them. 💙

Coco is a 2-year-old French Bulldog who visited HRVSS after being referred by for chronic ear problems that just wouldn’t quit.

After dealing with ongoing ear infections, Coco underwent a Total Ear Ca**l Ablation (TECA). This surgery removes the diseased ear ca**l and is often recommended when infections become severe, painful, and no longer respond well to medical treatment.

The procedure was performed by both of our surgeons working together, giving Coco the best possible care for this complex surgery.

✨ The outcome: Coco is recovering well and can finally look forward to life without the constant discomfort of recurring ear infections.

📸 Pictured here with Brittany, Coco was more than happy to show off her adorable Frenchie personality.

👉 When to seek help: If your dog has frequent ear infections, persistent head shaking, ear odor, discharge, or seems uncomfortable when their ears are touched, don’t assume it’s something they’ll just outgrow. Ask your veterinarian about a referral to www.HRVSS.com for a surgical consultation.

🐾 Meet our patient, Bentley!

Bentley is an 11-year-old Maltese who came to HRVSS after being referred by for a torn ACL in his right knee.

🔎 The challenge:
Bentley was no stranger to knee surgery. Two years ago, Dr. Phil Zeltzman performed a left TPLO to repair his other knee. This time, Bentley injured the ACL in his right knee, making it difficult and uncomfortable for him to get around.

💡 The solution:
Dr. Pete Baia performed a right TPLO surgery at HRVSS. TPLO changes the angle of the knee so it can stay stable and function normally, even after an ACL tear.

✨ The outcome:
With both knees now repaired, Bentley is recovering well and getting back to doing the things he loves. 💙

👉 When to seek help:
If your dog is limping, struggling to get up, or suddenly doesn’t want to jump, run, or use the stairs, it could be an ACL injury. Ask your veterinarian about a referral to www.HRVSS.com for a surgical consultation.

We thank our colleagues at for trusting us with Bentley’s care. 🐾

Daisy Duke, a 5 year old Bichon, had bladder stones for the 3rd time!
Because of the stones, she kept getting bladder infections or urinary tract infections (UTIs) and was very uncomfortable.
Dr. Pete Baia removed them, and now Daisy Duke is feeling much better.
Below are the preop and postop X-rays.
Bladder stones can happen in cats and dogs.
They may cause frequent urination, blood in the urine, straining, accidents in the house, or repeated UTIs.
If your pet is showing any of these signs, don’t ignore them.
Ask your family vet whether X-rays or an ultrasound may be needed - and to refer you to www.HRVSS.com to get them removed.

Patient spotlight: Chloe, a 6 year old Golden, broke her forearm (radius & ulna).

The challenge: she was referred by Health Care of Myerstown to repair the broken bone.

The solution: our board-certified surgeon, Dr. Pete Baia, performed surgery at www.HRVSS.com. He repaired the fracture with a plate and 9 screws to allow proper healing.

The outcome: she is now on the mend and on her way back to a comfortable, active life.

Like all of our patients, her recovery includes a customized pain management plan to ensure a smooth and successful healing process.

If your dog is limping, not using a leg properly, or seems painful after an injury, don’t ignore it - fractures can happen more easily than you think. Ask your family vet if a referral to www.HRVSS.com
is appropriate.

🐾 Say hello to Zoe!

Zoe is a 5-year-old female Yorkshire Terrier who came to HRVSS after being referred by for ongoing issues with her a**l glands.

🔎 The challenge:
Zoe was dealing with chronic a**l sac problems, which can cause pain, scooting, swelling, and even infections if they keep coming back.

💡 The solution:
Dr. Pete Baia performed a bilateral a**l sac removal, meaning both a**l glands were surgically removed to stop the problem at its source and keep Zoe comfortable long-term.

✨ The outcome:
Zoe is recovering well at home and already feeling more comfortable.

👉 When to seek help:
If your dog is scooting, licking the area frequently, or has swelling or drainage near the rear end, it could be an a**l gland issue. Ask your veterinarian about a referral to www.HRVSS.com for a surgical consultation.

Rita is getting back on her paws! 🐶✨

Rita is a 6-year-old female German Shepherd who came to HRVSS after being referred by for a torn ACL — the ligament that helps keep the knee stable.

Dr. Pete Baia performed a TPLO surgery, which stabilizes the knee by changing its angle so Rita can move comfortably again, even without the torn ligament.

✨ The outcome: Rita is recovering well at home and making great progress after surgery.

👉 When to seek help:
If your dog is limping, holding up a back leg, or suddenly doesn’t want to run, jump, or climb stairs, it could be an ACL injury. Ask your veterinarian about a referral to www.HRVSS.com.

We thank our colleagues at for trusting us with Rita’s care. 💙

Lucy is back on her paws! 🐶✨

Lucy is a 1-year-old female Golden Retriever who came to HRVSS after being referred by for an angular limb deformity — basically a crooked front leg that can affect how a dog walks and puts weight on the limb.

Dr. Phil Zeltzman performed corrective surgery to straighten and realign Lucy’s leg so she can move more comfortably and grow properly.

✨ The outcome: Lucy is recovering well at home and making great progress after surgery.

👉 When to seek help:
If your dog’s leg looks curved, uneven, or they’re walking abnormally or limping, it could be more than just a growth issue. Ask your veterinarian about a referral to www.HRVSS.com for a surgical consultation.

We thank our colleagues at for trusting us with Lucy’s care. 💙
