Our community gained an angel.

We are deeply honored that Coach Smith’s family has chosen to include our rescue, Harley's Hounds, in her legacy. Their generosity will help us continue giving animals in need the care, safety and second chance they deserve.

What a beautiful way for her love and kindness to live on. Her love for animals was just one reflection of the compassion she carried throughout her life.

Every gift made in her memory will allow us to help another animal in need—to provide food, medical care, safety and, ultimately, the chance to find a family of their own. 🐾

And sometimes… you get lucky enough to introduce your senior pup to the new one joining the family. I swear, somehow their personality gets a chance to marinate into them—even if only for a little while.

We let our Harley cross the rainbow when he told us it was time. And somehow, Stella reminds us of him every single day. In the little things. The quirks. The moments that make us stop and smile.

If you’ve met me, you know I’m a storyteller. And I especially love when I get to use that voice to tell a story on someone else’s behalf.

Recently, I had the opportunity to share Arlo’s story on the podcast, “From Dumpster to Diagnosis: Arlo’s ME Journey” with our friends at Mega E Misfits.

We talked about what life with megaesophagus really looks like—the routine, the flexibility, the resources that helped us navigate a recommendation for euthanasia, and ultimately, how manageable ME can be with the right support and commitment.

Today Jess got to share a little piece of her foster, Arlo’s story. 🐾💙 Mega E Misfits

She was interviewed about what everyday life looks like with a dog with megaesophagus—the routines, the special feeding, the adjustments, and all the things that have simply become normal because we love him.

Megaesophagus takes commitment, consistency (and tips from amazing people like Courtney - mentioned in the interview) and a whole lot of patience—but sweet Arlo is worth every bit of it. 🥹

So grateful for the opportunity to bring awareness to this condition and hopefully help another family realize that a ME diagnosis + adopting a dog with this condition doesn’t mean they can’t have a beautiful, happy life together.
