On January 30, ACCT Philly received a request for assistance from an individual who could no longer care for her cats and reached out for help.
When our team arrived, we discovered an estimated 30β40 cats living inside the home.
Despite living without heat or hot water, the individual was still trying their best to provide care for the cats. This situation is a reminder of how quickly things can become unmanageable, even for someone who loves their pets.
On February 4, our Animal Protection Officers returned to safely secure and transport the animals. A total of 39 cats were caught and brought to the shelter. Humane traps have been left on-site for the remaining cats, who were frightened and hiding during the response. The owner is also receiving assistance.
πΎ All cats currently in our care have received medical evaluations and necessary treatment and will be available for adoption soon.
As Philadelphiaβs only open-admission animal shelter, ACCT Philly responds to situations like this every day. Thanks to our incredible rescue partners who stepped up to help create space, we were able to take these cats in, with having space for the daily intake of cats.
β€οΈ If you have loved ones, please check on them and check on their pets too. Support can make all the difference before situations reach a crisis point.
π‘ You can help these cats by adopting, every adoption frees up space for the next animal who needs us.
π¦ You can also support by donating much-needed supplies to our pet pantry like:
β’ Wet cat food
β’ Cat litter
π Philadelphia is #1 in cat ownership, and we want to continue helping both pets and the people who love them. Please consider donating to our PETS Fund to help keep families and their pets together.
