Hey all!

Summer is over! This one seems to have been one for the record books as far as speed.

For those who I have not yet personally told, I have accepted a fulltime K9 position outside of Maryland. For those of you who I have had the pleasure of working with, thank you. Your time means more to me than you may realize, and I hope that you have enjoyed learning some cool things with your dogs. For me, there is little more satisfying than watching the progression made between a dog and their human.

I will be posting some tidbits, memes, and probably some pictures here and there of the new locales and dogs, stay tuned! Feel free to message me with any questions that you may have. As of now all I can say that I will be coming back to Maryland in one way or another. In, and for, an undetermined amount of time.

Again, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Bryce

Today Titan passed his tests for his first AKC titles, Good Citizen and Trick Dog Novice! Congrats to his hard-working owners for putting in the work to get this smart young pup on his way. The sky is the limit for him and has been an honor to be able to share my knowledge with them.

Thank you to Judge Wendy Marchant for braving the wet weather this morning!

Satisfying curiosity, going sniffing, sniffari. All buzz terms allowing your dog to get out and use their nose as they were bred to do is very important. Allowing some individual thought and critical thinking often will wear a dog out on different levels than strictly exercising their bodies.

Inserting this into your daily training will do quite a bit to increase the bond between you and your dog. Finding that fine line where your dog is able to rely on you to give them enrichment and keeping them interested in doing the task at hand will ultimately be on you.

Allowing your dogs to start using their noses and brains will help you if you decide to start doing detection for specific items/scents. My suggestion for those of you who wish to follow through into that is to not start with any type of command in the stages prior to, but to allow the activity to grow organically and have fun with it!

Discover the surprising reasons why you should allow your dog to sniff while on walks and how it benefits their mental and physical health.

Great session this morning doing some controlled aggression with Filo, she went above and beyond and really overcame some of last weeks hurdles. I believe moving her from a gentle leader to harness was a big factor in that progress.

While I am not an advocate of using harnesses for daily training, they do have a spot in your toolbox depending on the dog and task.

We were able to take advantage of the warm weather and get some outdoor socialization and group work in this week. Soon we will be able to enjoy the weather on a more consistent basis, stretch out our legs and get some of that natural vitamin d. (Just us, dogs don’t metabolize UV the same)

Whether you are climbing the AKC ranks, learning how to walk on leash or somewhere in between let’s get it done!

See you all out there!

Random updates are awesome, especially when they are regarding positive progress. TItan and his family have been working super hard over the past few months and it shows!

Congratulations to Wendy Marchant for completing her AKC Basic Novice Obedience title today with a 2nd place finish at the Dauphin Dog Club in Harrisburg, PA. Onward and upward to Advanced Novice and World Dandynation! So much for Mr. Dandy (super long official name) solely being a soft confirmation dog. Keep keeping the fun in fundamentals! Big thank you to Clare at K9 College Dog Training, LLC your insight, pushing, and continued dedication.
