I am Doretha Friend, The Furry Friend, this journey began with the desire to earn extra income, evolving into something much greater. Through volunteering, networking, and support from many, I've transformed beyond being the crazy dog lady.
I wear many hats: pet groomer, animal advocate, Vice-President of a non-profit organization, wife to a first-responder, mother, small business owner, shelter volunteer, trainer, and educator.
I speak for those who cannot.
I'm urging the Breckinridge County community to contact their magistrates to vote in favor of the updated animal welfare ordinance proposal. I've seen neglect due to lack of education and animals suffering without proper veterinary care. Many shelter animals I've groomed for free, before adoption and rescue transport, had severe matting, tick diseases, and skin infections. As a groomer, every groom is an opportunity to make a difference. The ordinance's passage would provide clear guidelines and education, empowering animal owners and the local government to address animals' needs ethically.
If you're interested in sponsoring a specific animal's free grooming at Breckinridge County Animal Shelter or donating to Breck. County Animal Friends Inc. for emergency veterinary services or rescue transportation please don't hesitate to contact me…
