So, I'm not a very good plant person, but I finally planted a tree behind the kennel building. The plan is to plant three trees for shade and add an additional exercise pen. So I planted a Kwanzan Cherry Tree that has beautiful flower clusters in the spring and orange leaves in the fall. Sounds beautiful, right?

Well, after I planted the tree, I decided to do a Google search about my new tree. I saw a suggested search that said, "Kwanzan Cherry Tree Toxicity." Of course, this peaked my interest.

Apparently, Cherry Trees are toxic to dogs and horses. The bark, flower clusters, and leaves can cause cyanide poisoning during the digestion process. So, it's coming out. We have this Kwanzan Cherry and a Weeping Cherry for free if anyone wants them. They do not have a place at my house. Im truly thankful I learned about possible issues on Google and not at the vet.

Just an update on these two. $385 has been donated this far for their care. Wow! I'm so thankful for the financial support! I also have a sweet couple who have asked to donate toward their bill at the vet and a couple others who have said that checks are in the mail. I'm so relieved and grateful for the help. We truly appreciate everyone who has sent money toward their care ❤️ Their vet visits will come in the near future when they are strong and have a little leash training. Right now, we are solely focussing on rest and recovery.

Healthwise, they are improving! They are much less sore. Their feet and body soreness is healing. We are seeing an increase in energy, curiosity, and personalities. We are seeing hope on their faces and we are getting more tail wags. These boys are sweet, but they do not know much and they haven't been handled much. It's crazy to see how trusting they have already become. We have completed their first deworming. They are still on probiotics. We have slowly increased their feed over the past week. We started with small portions and feeding 3x/day. We have worked our way to larger portions and feeding twice per day. I'm still seeing them eat grass during turnouts. So they will stay on the probiotics until they seem more comfortable. Overall, they are much stronger. The flop-eared dog was very close to death. I truly think he only had a couple days of life left in him. But he has bounced back and we are so glad to see glimpses of his personality shining through ❤️ The prick-eared dog has been in better shape from the beginning. But he is filling out and improving his body condition as well. I'm thinking their names will be Captain Call and Augustus McCray from Lonesome Dove. They have been on a huge journey.

Again, I'm so grateful for donations. Every cent will go toward their care. If you wish to donate, please Cashapp me at $SashaMcCarty88. Please put rescue dogs in the memo or note how you want the money spent - food, treats, vet care, etc.

This poor guy hurts so bad he can't move faster than a walk. He is in worse shape than the other one. He has depleted all his reserves and has zero energy today. The one with prick ears is more dominant, so I'm sure he got the lion's share of anything they could find. It smells like their last meal was a skunk 🦨 We are starting probiotics and dewormer today. I need name suggestions. So if you have some good ones, post them in the comments below.

I could never be in the dog rescue business. I couldn't handle this heartbreak every single day. These German Shepherds didn't deserve the fate someone gave them. They didn't deserve to be dumped in the middle of nowhere and left to starve. How could someone be so callous to a living soul? I will never know.

People who live in the country do not have resources to handle strays. We do not have animal control to pick them up. We can't take them to the pound. They won't be accepted because they are out of city limits. Why would someone dump them so far from food, water, shelter, people to take pity on them?

We have two choices - let them starve or shoot them. That's the cold hard facts. Finding their way to our place is the exception, I guarantee you, these boys had a very slim chance of survival - one way or another. Putting them down would have been kinder than leaving them to die of starvation, thirst, or exposure.

A friend of ours called me on these two. They had been in the same area for two days. They are dehydrated, hungry, and road weary. They were looking for help, but a rancher has to protect his livestock. And honestly. If they were young puppies, I wouldn't have taken them in. I wouldn't have been able to justify the risk of bringing Parvo home.

I was told about them this morning. I tried to talk myself out of it all day. I don't need more dogs. We have a passell of them that have found their way to us. We have too many to feed as it is. It took me 4 months to re-home the last stray I picked up. I don't have time for anymore projects. These boys are definitely projects. How could someone be so callous? Why would they dump them miles from food, water, shelter, civilization? I guarantee you that these boys grew up in someone's back yard. Could you imagine going from life in a backyard to life on the plains. No preparation, no prior experience, no survival skills, no food or water. How terrible would that be?

So, here we are. I'm rehabilitating these two. I'm going to give them the training they deserve and find them the perfect home where they will be loved, appreciated, and cared for.

Both will need to be neutered and a rabies vaccine. If you would like to donate to their cause, please let me know. I would definitely appreciate it. My cash app is $SashaMcCarty88 if you would like to help. Be sure to leave a note for what you are donating for - food, vet care, or training, so I can ensure it goes to your preference.

Archie has zero regrets about the bath he will receive before he goes home 😂.

Training alumni get the run of the farm when they return for boarding. We were working on the door to the chicken coop yesterday and Archie found the biggest mud puddle possible. We are just so happy to have mud. Apparently, so is Archie 😂
