I always love sorting back through photos. Even if it was just a couple of months ago. Looking at things you got to experience and thinking about what you gained or how it pushed you to be better.

Growing is scary and nerve racking. Putting yourself in new situations, and not being afraid to jump into an experience to see what comes out the other side can be scary.

I got the opportunity to watch Kip Fladland rope and work toward gentling a nervous, kill lot pony owned by my friend and co-worker Katherine Michels Porter . We then got things settled enough for me to trim her feet for the very first time as he roped a hind foot.

It was entirely nerve racking putting myself in the firing zone of a horse that was scared for her life. I made a few mistakes due to nerves but it was entirely new to me working with a horse in this fashion.

Was it perfect? Nope. But I sure got to experience it. I took away a lot. Many things big and small.

It’ll sure be neat in a few years when I’ve experienced a lot more to look back and think about where this moment lead me.

Phoebe Moll Horsemanship is getting hip with the times!! Today I taught my very first round of virtual lessons. The UP gals had things ready to go and came full of questions. How fun to see things improve from a computer screen view. I’m excited to be able to expand my reach to those who have questions but are farther away.

Thanks Hannah Gentz & Mara Maki for pushing to get things moving virtually and making this trial process so smooth and awesome. Even your horses seemed to enjoy it! 😁🤍

Pivo Equestrian is fantastic! Anyone looking for a virtual lesson option, I highly recommend it!

The world around you is beautiful, when the world within you is peaceful. -Unknown

Spent time with two of my personal horses this evening. It’s really neat to see them enjoy each other’s company, and it be just as relaxing for them to just maneuver them around together as it is for me.

No rush, no pressure, just slow and smooth.

This horse is really neat. This is only my third time working with him. I was told he was spooky, looky and can have a tendency to get pretty worried. It all reins true, he does get pretty tight and bothered by his blind spots, and quite looky at things around him. But, today he had a few moments that really busted through his worry.

Today I really witnessed he really doesn’t know what to do when he gets worried. We worked through some sticky spots on the ground, and in the moments of letting him soak, I noticed he would try to let down, but then would immediately come back up, then try to let down, then come back up, over and over. Instead of getting after him or making him move again, I let him sort through it himself. Surely, after a minute of observing he slowly stretched way, way down, closed his eyes and just sat.

Sometimes the best thing we can do is wait, give them a moment, to process and search on their own. Allowing them to uncover things that feel good to them too.

It then translated to our ride later, there were moments of tightness in the beginning, but he came back to me sooner and softer. Almost like he knew, I was going to let him search for that mellow safe spot after moving through the worry again.

Experience. It’s a word that keeps ringing in my mind through all of the clinics I’ve had the opportunity to ride in this year.

The only way to develop feel and to grow is to keep gaining experience.

It’s a quote that seems to have been said by each clinician in some way shape or form.

And the way to keep gaining experience, is to keep handling as many horses as you can. Keep riding. Keep doing groundwork. Keep teaching. And just keep showing up everyday.

It sometimes feels like a mess. You sometimes seem to fail repeatedly. You might make things worse before it gets better. But they sure are forgiving when we are learning too. I love that about growth in this world and industry, you just have to keep working with the horses.

Oh baby Booker you are just a love. 💕

First time working cattle ever, and boy did he enjoy it. Two years ago Buster & Sheryl McLaury - Horsemen and Clinicians helped me saddle and put the first rides on Booker. I’ve slowly but surely put more time on him since then.

This being his first summer on the clinic scene he sure made me proud today, being calm, cool and with me the whole time. I can’t wait for all of the adventures to come with this guy.
