On the night of Tyler's passing, the people at the animal hospital took clay impressions of Tyler's feet and gave me a copy when I went to pick up his ashes. I have had them mounted and sealed inside a shadowbox display case.
This is the final item that will adorn Tyler's shelf. This will likely be the final post on Tyler's page. You know, I've been through a lot of trials and hardships during the course of my life; but saying goodbye to Tyler is the hardest thing I've ever had to do. It's been over a month and the ache is still as strong as the night it happened.
Thank you to all the friends and fans who followed Tyler over the years, and thank you for all the love and support you've shown.

I chose this picture to put next to Tyler's urn because it's one of my favorite memories with Tyler. It was taken at Spirit Mountain. I remember thinking "Here I am at Spirit Mountain, with Tyler in my lap, and we're sitting at a slot machine! How awesome is that!"
A lot of older people tend to frequent Spirit Mountain, and they were attracted to Tyler like a magnet. Throughout the evening there was a constant presence of people who came over to pet and dote on Tyler. Tyler, of course, loved every minute of it and was more than happy to give back as much lovin as he was getting. That was his gift: Bringing moments of joy to the lives of others.

There it is. Tyler's final resting place. I chose brown for the urn because he absolutely loved walks in the woods, so it seemed a befitting color. The urn sits on a bookshelf pointed in a direction that overlooks the greater portion of the apartment's common area. Tyler was adamant about knowing where I was at all times, so I think he'll be happy with this spot.

Tyler
2006 - 2021

It is with a deeply grievous heart that I must inform you that Tyler passed away lastnight at the age of 14 (91 in dog years) at approximately 6pm. He was napping in his doggy bed in the living room and I was in my chair. He got up, stretched a little, then looked at me and wagged his tail and walked over and looked at me with that expression he got when he wanted some lovin' from dad. So I slid out of the chair and sat on the floor and petted him, and he rested his head in the palm of my hand as he sometimes liked to do while I was getting the good spots behind the ears. A couple minutes later he just stopped breathing.
He lived a good life. He lived a full life. There were so many journeys and adventures. He managed to become a local celebrity. He had a fan page on Facebook with a number of followers. I never quite got used to people recognising him in grocery stores or other public places and saying "Oh my god! Is that Tyler..." and then wanting a picture of him; during the few months that happened. Tyler, on the other hand, absolutely loved it. He always had a very gentle and approachable demeanor, and the number of people he brought a moment of joy to is way beyond my reckoning.
In the end, he died peacefully and without pain. In a place where he felt secure and knew he was loved. I suppose none of us can really hope for better than that.
