The fun continued this afternoon with our second group of young riders for camp. We definitely think egg hunting is more fun on the horses and ponies!

Kicking off the Spring season at Legato Farm! A little rain wasn’t going to keep us from having a good time! Makenna and Iris kicked us off earlier this week with bunny ears and Easter games. Junior camp this morning was also loads of fun. So proud of this group of young riders who have grown leaps and bounds in their riding. They are truly a fantastic group of young ladies with a great sense of humor to boot!

Beau was a very good student today paying very close attention to this morning’s lessons. Though it was a little breezy, it was great to get outside again!

The horses and ponies were extra spoiled today with a yummy donut treat from the horse world expo. Thank you Makenna!

It has been a chilly week here at the farm but happenings are rolling along as we get closer to spring. Ted (aka Ted Theodore Logan only acknowledged by Dan) has found a wonderful new owner and is joining a new program where he will continue to entertain and try hard for his riders. We will miss the little guy greatly but so happy that he has a top notch farm to call home and that he may even stop by for some visiting lessons in the future. He’s enjoying the attention from the mares in his new pasture. 🤩 Of course, this likely means that we will welcome another lesson horse to the program in the coming weeks. Finding the right fit for our students and the herd is always of paramount importance in our searches, and we look forward to scouting some prospects soon and keeping everyone posted on when he or she arrives. 😊🐴🍀

Happy Valentine’s Day from all of our horses and ponies at Legato Farm! Our herd feels the love every day working with our riders…being gifted with carrots, cookies, and other treats, and doted on with scratches and snuggles before and after every lesson. While the winter months have brought its fair share of challenges with weather and illness, we have been fortunate to still do quite a bit of riding. It has been a time of preparation and anticipation for the spring and summer months for many students, achieving goals and setting new ones…all the while having fun doing it. We have lots to look forward to as we will again host a spring and fall schooling show on the farm in 2025 and will be hitting the circuit of off farm shows with students to test and display their skills and partnerships. Think Spring everyone and thank you for all the love you have shared in our amazing community of riders!

Polar Vortex - Day 3: A Light at the End of the Tunnel

Another chilly morning on the horizon, but with the beauty of the sunset, we very much look forward to the return of warmer temperatures. We are thankful for the health of our herd, the unfrozen water and the grace of very little wind on the coldest days. Winter is not an easy season on the farm, but like all things it is fleeting and in its beauty we can at times find a moment of peace and reprieve from whatever challenges life has thrown our way.

Polar Vortex - Day 1: Scenes from the garden

So much beauty to be found even on the coldest of days. Despite temperatures so chilly that even the horses blankets were frozen, all is quiet on the farmstead and the horses and ponies are all snuggled in for the night. We are so thankful that the wind has stayed mostly away, that we have running water, that the horses and ponies are healthy and that the farm machinery is working. A few more wintry days ahead and while we appreciate the beauty of the farm glistening in the snow, we look forward to the warmer and longer days ahead.

2024 By The Numbers…

We are already half way through the first month of 2025 and before time flies again, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on what a great year 2024 ended up being at Legato Farm. We welcomed 4 new horses to the farm (Davis in February, Owen in June, Beau in November and Rickey in December) who are well loved and cared for by their riders and owners. We added 1 new vehicle to the fleet and 1 new building to help our operations run more smoothly. We held 4 junior rider camps, 3 schooling shows, 2 adult camps, and 1 clinic on the farm and went to 5 shows off the farm, helping many of our wonderful students gain their first experiences and ribbons to celebrate the hard work they put into their lesson rides throughout the year. We taught over 75 riders and the hours of fun and learning with our fantastic herd are just too many to count. We are so grateful to our students and our mutual colleagues in the equine industry for their ongoing support and are excited for all that’s in store for 2025!

Yes, that’s Mona letting Beau snuggle and even play with her ears. She’s quite an anomaly. While very much an introvert who prefers to stay to herself, she seems to sense when another horse is just a bit unsettled and takes time to comfort them. A little bit of kindness shown by these amazing creatures and a life lesson for all of us. Good girl Mony Pony ❤️
