The truth is, there’s no single path into the horse world and that’s what makes it so special. From lesson barns and 4-H to grooms, vets, trainers, and re-riders, everyone’s journey looks a little different. But the thread that connects us all is the desire to get better with horses.

Ever heard someone say, “I don’t even pay this much for daycare!” when talking about board prices?

We promise you… horses are not children. They are giant, silent, hay-powered toddlers who eat like linebackers, break things for no reason, and require a facility the size of a small village to stay alive. Daycare closes for snow. Boarding barns just layer up and keep shoveling. Kids break toys. Horses break gates, buckets, fences, and sometimes the laws of physics. Your toddler might eat a lot of chicken nuggets. Your horse eats round bales, grain, bedding, and your savings account (and ours, too).

👀 This series popped up in our inbox and we had to share: “A Year in the Life of a Horse” featuring none other than Esco Buff 👀

We’ve been lucky to have Esco at the farm for farrier clinics, he’s evaluated our horses, and mentored our farrier, Elise. Reading this article and listening to the podcast hit home and it’s exactly what he teaches when he’s here. You can also see why Elise is so detailed and documents her work so well because she’s learned from one of the best.

It’s a great read and listen if you love learning about hoof care and how much thought goes into keeping horses comfortable and sound year-round. We’re grateful for the knowledge Esco shares and how his education helps farriers and owners “get better with horses”.

Labor Day was created to honor the hard work and dedication of American workers. While many celebrate with a well-deserved day of rest, in the horse world the work never really stops. (Unless you are Puff, as seen in the photo).

Horses still need to be fed, stalls still need to be cleaned, and care still comes first, holiday or not.

So today, we tip our hats to all the hardworking people, both in and out of the barn, who keep things moving forward every single day. Horses may not take a holiday, but we’re proud to labor with love. ❤️
