Why groom a short-haired cat? 🤔
🐾 Short-haired cats shed as much hair as long-haired cats do. Regular bathing can reduce the amount of shedding your cat does at home by washing away loose hair far more effectively than brushing alone.
🐾When cats self-groom, they leave behind a coat covered in dried saliva. This can be irritating to humans with allergies. Outdoor cats in particular can bring in pollen and other allergens from outside. Regular bathing can drastically reduce the amount of allergens present on a cat, making life a little easier on those of us humans with allergies.
🐾Cats can self-groom to remove dirt and debris, but can't help themselves with greasy buildup or excessive dry skin and dander; some cats have both. Our bathing process removes dirt and grease, gently exfoliates, and rehydrate the skin for a soft, clean, and comfy cat.
🐾Socializing cats to all different types of animal husbandry prepares your cat for whatever life throws at him. Maybe an unexpected encounter with a skunk leaves him stinky; maybe he gets into a pan of grease on the kitchen counter; maybe he develops a skin condition later in life that requires medicated baths. There are many reasons a cat might need a bath in his lifetime. A cat who has the opportunity to get acclimated to the experience over time is going to have a much safer and more pleasant experience than one who is only introduced to bathing in an emergency.

Cat Grooming at The Beauty Pawlor: a uniquely comfortable pampering experience! Our signature cat grooming service is performed by a Low-Stress Handling-certified, IAABC-cerified behaviorist and includes a warm, relaxing exfoliating shampoo scrub, followed by a deeply moisturizing, de-shedding conditioner treatment with a warm towel wrap. We thoroughly clean ears with an effective antimicrobial formula, clip nails to a healthy length, and gently-blow-dry the coat, blowing away dead hair and mats. We finish by combing out loose hairs and smoothing down the coat, leaving your furry friend clean, soft, comfortable, and perfectly cuddle-able. Hand-stripping: it isn't just for terriers and spaniels! Mixed-breed dogs are like a genetic slot machine- their traits can present randomly in any combination. 🎰
🐾Gus is a golden doodle with one poodle parent and one retriever parent, but he has a wire coat like a terrier. Stripping the dead hair instead of clipping length maintains a sleek appearance, preserves the vibrancy of his golden color, and promotes the health of his skin. 🪙

As a member of New England Pet Grooming Professionals, co-owner Katelyn Parker takes her pledge to treat all pets in her care with “Integrity, Kindness, and Skill” seriously. Her approach to grooming takes advantage of an in-depth understanding of how animals learn to help pets feel comfortable in the salon and establish a cooperative relationship, all while providing optimal coat and skin care based on your pet’s individual needs. She is excited to add hand-stripping to her repertoire after studying with former International Groomer of the Year, Scott Wasserman. Hand-stripping encourages controlled shedding and promotes healthy skin in certain breeds. All bath packages include specialty shampoo and conditioner, leave-in conditioner, fluff-drying, complete brush-out, nail trimming and filing, and a bandana or bow. Groom packages consist of a bath package plus AKC breed styling or a custom trim. We offer free and reduced-price services to pets in foster homes. Between-groom nail trimming and filing is FREE to regular clients with at least one appointment booked in advance. We do not offer full-service cat grooming at this time, but we do offer cat bathing and nail trimming.
The Beauty Pawlor offers Desensitization and Counter-Conditioning (DS/CC) services to pets who have previously developed an aversion to grooming. During these sessions, we address and reverse fearful responses to certain triggers in scared pets, such as drying, brushing, or nail trims. In as little as 15 minutes, a pet who has fought the nail trimmers for years can learn to love the pampering.
In the behavior department, our goal is to help you and your pet enjoy the world together stress-free by bridging the inter-species communication gap between man and dog, promoting good handling skills and positive functional relationships. When your pet destroys your furniture, growls at each passing dog, startles at every noise, bites the veterinarian out of nowhere, or displays any unwanted behavior that make us humans pull our hair out- The Beauty Pawlor is here to help. We use reinforcement-based behavior modification techniques to replace those undesirable behaviors with ones everyone can live with, and help owners learn to communicate more effectively with their pets.
The Beauty Pawlor’s specialties include acclimating puppies to the grooming process through our specially priced “Pawlor Pup” program; soothing achy arthritic joints and sore muscles with our Soothing Senior Spa package; and the rapid reversal of fear-based aggression and anxiety-related behaviors. Our services are available by appointment only. Appointments are scheduled on a one-on-one basis. Booking is now open.
