In Loving Memory of Hokie
2011 – 2025
It is with full hearts and deep gratitude that we say goodbye to Hokie, our beloved Yellow Labrador Retriever, who passed away peacefully at the age of 14. A constant presence in our lives, Hokie was more than a pet—she was family, a teacher, a healer, and a steadfast friend.
From her younger days of chasing tennis balls with boundless energy to her later years of quiet wisdom and soft companionship, Hokie lived a life full of love and purpose. She had a gentle heart and a loyal spirit, always eager to lend a comforting presence, whether at home, at work, or in the company of strangers who quickly became friends.
She was known for her sneaky talent for stealing lunches, her joy in tagging along to work, her short political career and her remarkable patience—especially with the children she helped raise. She was their playmate, protector, and teacher, even guiding them as they took their first steps. Hokie also became a source of comfort and therapy for countless coworkers and clients, offering quiet support during life’s toughest moments, asking for nothing in return but a kind word, a milkbone or a gentle pat.
She listened without judgment, loved without condition, and brought a sense of calm wherever she went.
Hokie’s absence leaves a hole in our hearts and in the rhythm of our days. Her paw prints are etched into our memories, into many pieces of concrete and her legacy of love and gentleness will live on in all of us.
She is deeply missed by her family, friends, coworkers, and all who were lucky enough to know her.
Rest well, Hokie. You were such a good dog. Thank you for everything.
