We don’t want him sprinting, but we are still working on getting a little more speed.

When we say no behavior is an issue we mean it! This business was started to help reactive dogs, whether or not they mean what they say. If your dog needs to meet in a neutral space, or super slow introductions where I may not even touch them the first couple times that is perfectly okay.

Handling Gracie for the first time made me sad because she reminds me so much of my own dog, Rango. Super sweet with humans, but it feels like there is a trauma response when it comes to animals. At the shelter she is very dog reactive, but that doesn’t mean she can’t get along with dogs. One of my fosters was extremely dog reactive at the shelter but now lives with 3 dogs without issue.

Gracie’s restrictions:
Not a fan of cats, but everyone else is welcome, so bring the whole family in to meet her today!(including dogs, but it may take more than one pack walk to get them acquainted!)

Can you believe these videos were taken 10 minutes apart? Mills aren’t only for exercise, they are great for building confidence too!

Meet Ray, a super sweet guy who urgently needs a foster or forever home. He has started to self-mutilate when left alone in his kennel so he has been moved to an office, but that only mitigates the problem, doesn’t get rid of it. He was with his last family for 4 years where they had noted severe separation anxiety, so he would do best with someone who works from home, or someone who is retired. He just needs love, affection, and a lot of exercise. Although he is super sweet he does seem to struggle with manners and can get overstimulated and mouthy, so he does have an age restriction of 12+. With him struggling so much at the shelter he may need more than one meeting with dogs to make sure they get along, but he has lived with dogs before and didn’t have any issues. I will gladly offer a discounted basic or deluxe pass to anyone who adopts him just to help with his adjustment period!

Rays restrictions:
Not a fan of cats, he would definitely benefit from a dog friend to help him run his energy out, but may need more than one attempt meeting them due to his shelter stress. Would prefer all his human friends be 12+ because he can get very excited and not know what to do with himself.

Dex was slow to trust(like most GSDs) but once he got his footing it was off to the races! Bumping Pick It Up by Dexter helped too. (I’ve never been more upset about Metas royalty free rules)

Meet Dex, as 6y/o GSD who was surrendered due to no fault of his own. His owners surrendered him because they didn’t have enough time for such an active breed. He’s very smart and can speak both English and Spanish, but hasn’t had the structure or guidance German Shepherds need. I met him today for the first time in a mock showing, and he started rubbing up on my legs almost immediately(although he has definitely seen me pass his kennel many times before).

Dex’s deal breakers:
Dex has lived with dogs before, but isn’t a fan of cats. While he interacted with kids of all ages in his last home, due to his jumpy mouthy play style he would prefer all of his friends in the home be 16+. This was my first time interacting with him, but definitely not his first time on a mill. All he needs is affection(refused every kind of treat I had)

Mills have offered him the outlet he needs as a young dog in a kennel 23 hours a day. Something we offer for all dogs, no matter the temperament.

Kango has no restrictions, but hasn’t been cat tested yet, so be sure to bring the whole family in to meet him. If you have a cat all you have to do is ask staff to cat tested yet him before meeting!

Eager is an understatement for Rebel. From 15 minutes of coaxing, to scratches on the doors. Getting comfortable in new situations help build a dog’s confidence, which is more important than most owners think.

You’ve seen Rebel on this page already, but not enough people have met him in person. Cuddly, and lots of puppy energy are the only ways I can describe him. But come into Humane Society for Hamilton County to come see for yourself!

Hasn’t been cat tesred yet, but come into to meet and staff can set that up for you! With his big energy he would prefer to have his friends be over 12, and would need to meet all people and dogs before going home with you!

You can’t have work without a little play. Our goal is to help as many dogs as possible, not just shelter dogs. Although my roots make me want to run HSHC dogs every day they aren’t the only dogs who benefit from regular runs.
Most dogs sit in the house 23 hours a day relying on you for their enrichment. We have an easy fix.
