Hoping all our friends are taking the precautions necessary to stay safe from Hurricane Milton ❤️
At this point, every little jog or wobble will matter. Trying to use models to pinpoint a track change of a few miles is impossible. So, for the next 18 hours, we do what is called "nowcasting". We, like you, track every little change or nuance of the path.
Our area has prepared the best we can for the past 2 days. Most of the significant impacts begin in about 12 hours and will continue overnight. These include:
1. Winds across much of the warned areas gusting as high as 100 mph at its worst. Remember, the extreme winds will be confined to a very small area near the eye. Hurricane winds STILL only extend 30 miles out.
2. Surge is such a close call. Ultimately, last minute wobbles will determine landfall and impacts. These wobbles are completely unpredictable, altbough they often bump toward the East. The worst of the surge will be along, and just South of landfall. However, overall surge will have impacts far and wide. If you live on the water, you still have time to evacuate away from harms way.
3. At this point, the heaviest rains will be NORTH of the center. Totals of 6-10" are expected in these areas with higher local totals.
4. For nearly a century, the Bay Area has just missed impacts from major hurricanes. Unfortunately, that streak ends today. We have prepared the best we can. Exact landfall will matter for surge. However, impacts will be felt across the entire area. Of course, some worse than others. You still have time to finish up preps for a few hours before the worst starts to come in this evening.
5. Many will lose power overnight. Those outages could last for days or even weeks in some places. Our radio partners will simulcast our broadcast through the day to allow you to get important information for the next 24 hours or longer.
6. We have prepared for the worst. Now we hope for the best. In the coming weeks we will lean on each other for help and support. Our communities will come together to help those in need. That will be a lot of folks. Our team will be there for you 24/7. Today, tomorrow and until every last person in our neighborhoods are back on their feet. Updates 24/7.
