🚨 Important Update for Dog Owners & Puppy Families
The AKC has released updated guidance regarding New World Screwworm (NWS) after confirmed cases were detected in parts of Texas and New Mexico.
While this is not a reason to panic, it is something breeders, exhibitors, transporters, and anyone traveling across state lines with dogs should be aware of.
🐾 What you should know:
• New World Screwworm is a parasite that can infest open wounds in animals.
• It is not spread through meat, poultry, or other food products.
• Some states, including Florida, have updated health certificate and movement requirements for dogs coming from affected areas.
• If you’re planning to travel with your dog or transport a puppy across state lines, be sure to check the latest regulations before you go.
At Florida’s Finest German Shepherds, I’ll continue monitoring updates from the AKC, USDA, and Florida Department of Agriculture and will keep our puppy families informed of any changes that could affect them.
As always, our puppies receive veterinary care and Florida Health Certificates before going home, and we’ll make sure our families have the most current information if travel requirements change.
