Saturdays are for sunshine and watermelon!

Pups all enjoyed a nice cool treat in the sun and I think the watermelon was a big hit!

Don’t worry, we took the rinds away once they’d eaten down to that part and they were seedless, so no worries there either.

Enjoying our weekend off and home before we hit the ground running with our local show in Ballston Spa and then make the trek over to Greeley, Colorado for the 5th Annual Klee Kai Specialty!!!

Sometimes lazy days are needed to reenergize, recharge…and get household chores done 🤣 I gave the dogs a list of what needs to be done but I don’t think they’re up for much other than supervising and judging my skills and abilities….lol. Oh well!

Klee Kai Joins Miscellaneous Class

We welcome the Alaskan Klee Kai into the AKC fold. This alert and mischievous companion became eligible to compete in Miscellaneous Class conformation events on June 25.

The Klee Kai has ancient roots descended from the native dogs that have populated Alaska for thousands of years. The Klee Kai stands no more than 17½ inches, with a medium-length double coat, a wedge-shaped head, and triangular ears.

“The Alaskan Klee Kai breed we see today was developed in Alaska from well-bred husky dogs by Linda Spurlin and her family starting in the early 1970s.

“Using a strict breeding program to select the somewhat smaller dogs with the type/look she envisioned that also met her high standards for health, structure, and temperament, she carefully developed a companion-sized version of the Alaska Husky with a very distinctive contrasting symmetrical facial mask and markings.”—AKKCA

MBISS GCHB Bellator’s Close Encounter JC CA BCAT—“Roswell” or “Rozzy”—is bred by Bellator Kennels and primarily owner-handled. She’s a beautifully balanced Basenji who combines correct structure, graceful movement, and undeniable ring presence. In 2024, she finished as the #12 Basenji (breed) and #16 Basenji (all-breed), earning multiple Best in Specialty Show titles, numerous group and owner-handled group placements, and a standout Owner-Handled Reserve Best in Show at the Company Governor’s Footguard Athletic Association Dog Show. Whether in a specialty ring or a competitive group lineup, Roswell consistently proves she’s the total package: elegant, intelligent, and full of Basenji fire!

The Bellator Girls had a GREAT Sunday in Vermont to finish off the Vermont Scenic Circuit!

Unfortunately Dog Show Daddy couldn’t make it last minute due to the RV requiring service, so he had to stay home with the other doggies.

First up, Ms Ginger - Bellator’s Afternoon Tea (Ch Eldorado N Jublie Xcellent Adventure X
Ch Bellator's Pinot Noir) went WB for her third 3 point major which finished her AKC Championship!!

Next, Ms Rozzy - GChB Bellator’s Close Encounter JC CA BCAT (GCh Eldorado N Akuaba Spy In Disguise At Relic X Ch Dark Moon’s Sojourner) was awarded BOB & BOBOH - this OH win earned her NOHS Silver level of achievement!!

HUGE thank you to judge Ms Helene Nietsch for finding the Bellator Girls in the beautiful line up of basenjis!!

Shortly after the basenji ringtime….but thankfully no conflict, Ms Rio and Ms Grýla had their turn in the ring!

Ms Grýla - Bellator’s Regal Yule Sorceress (Hope’s Sterling Silver Azeem X Regal’s Coven With Bellator CM2 BCAT) was awarded BOB for her 15th CM (Certificate of Merit) point and therefore earning her CM at just 6 months and 2 weeks of age!

Ms Rio - Regal’s Enchanter at Bellator CM (Sibridge’s Caney River @ Regal X Regal’s Sweet Voice For Freyja) was handled by our friend Rosie, who is always up for a challenge and always tries to make sure the dogs have fun…which is important when all Rio wants to do it chase Grýla or get back to momma lol. Thank you Rosie for always being such a good sport and always having such a positive attitude with the doggies!

Thank you to judge Ms Patricia Proctor for your patience and humor in the ring with these two Klee Kai babies!

Rio, who previously earned her CM last weekend, is the 4th Alaskan Klee Kai to receive their CM since the AKK moved to Miscellaneous Classification on 25 June 2025. Grýla is the 6th Klee Kai to earn their CM and quite likely the youngest Klee Kai CM earner!

After the Klee Kai had their time in the ring, we had some downtime waiting for groups to enjoy watching the show and sampling the delicious Maple Creamies (maple soft serve ice cream). All the dogs approved of the ice cream!!

Back in the Hound Group ring with Roswell, she FLEW around the ring and earned a Hound Group 2 placement in a top quality packed hound group under judge Ms Helene Nietsch! For OH Groups the sun and humidity came back out in full force and our little black and white girl said NOPE, it’s hot! lol. She was way less animated for OH group, but still put on a decent performance. We are sooo proud of Roswell and all she’s accomplished, she’s truly OUTTA THIS WORLD!

So, although we missed Dog Show Daddy tremendously, the Bellator Girls still had a great time in Vermont!

Next up is the Hudson River Valley Hound Association double shows on July 20th!! After that, this Bellator crew will be taking a couple week break before jumping back in!

We still have Ms Henny - Bellator’s Dark Holiday (Ch Sundiata Tezeta's Bon Vivant X Ch Dark Moon's Sojourner) waiting in the wings to finish her championship! She has both majors already, just needs points!

Plus with have Torunn’s Little Outlaws we hope to get into the ring soon!

Thanks for following along, and if you love Dog Show Daddy’s livestream commentary, be sure to give him a like and a follow too!
