Snow came to us a couple weeks ago when her life was in danger. She'd been chasing livestock, and snagged herself a few extra fresh chicken nuggets. 😬 Multiple farmers had threatened to shoot the next white stray dog they saw, so despite being so over our limit, we reluctantly said yes.
And it's a good thing we did, because Snow was pregnant.
Over 18,000 animals are euthanized each year in Oklahoma. Approximately 1 in 4 dogs that enter a municipal shelter in Oklahoma do not make it out. When looking at the numbers, the breeds most likely to be euthanized are pitbulls and pit mixes. Adults, puppies, newborns.... it doesn't matter. 😔 There's simply not enough space, and not enough adopters.
So we will not be having a puppy shower, or a pregnancy photoshoot for Snow. Instead, we will be celebrating HER life, because she is here with us, safe and alive. She gets to be the big, gentle puppy who can have ALL the treats and soft beds! 🥰 Because yesterday, at only 5 weeks along, Snow was spayed. Our vet told us it would have been 12 puppies. Now, 12 other dogs, already in this world, already alive and desperate for a home, will get their chance instead. 💞
Snow is a 3 year old Pit Mix. She is spayed, vaccinated, and micrchipped. She does well with a doggy door, and gets along great with other dogs of all shapes and sizes. She's a very gentle soul in the rescue, knows Sit, and isn't a barker at all. We think older kids who aren't loud and rowdy, would be a great fit for this pretty girl. 😅Her new home just can't be one with any livestock. 🐥🐔
