🐱✨ **Meet Benny!** ✨🐱..one of the sweetest feline patients we have the pleasure of caring for! ❤️

When Benny first came to see us, his owners noticed subtle changes that just didn't seem right. Because they acted quickly and sought veterinary care early, Dr. Ladner was able to diagnose Benny with Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP). Today, Benny came in for his recheck, and we are thrilled to report that he is doing AMAZING! His hair is growing back and he has since gained 3.4 pounds since diagnoses and treatment!! He definitely looks like a new man! 🎉

Benny's story is a wonderful reminder of how important it is to trust your instincts when something seems "off" with your pet. Early intervention, combined with Dr. Ladner's medical expertise and Benny's dedicated family, has given him the opportunity for an incredible recovery.

💙 **What is Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP)?**

FIP is a disease caused by a mutation of the feline coronavirus. While many cats are exposed to feline coronavirus and never become seriously ill, in a small percentage of cats the virus mutates, triggering an intense inflammatory response throughout the body.

🐾 Signs of FIP can be vague and may include:
• Decreased appetite
• Weight loss
• Fever that doesn't improve with antibiotics
• Lethargy
• Fluid buildup in the abdomen or chest (the "wet" form)
• Eye inflammation or neurologic signs such as wobbliness or seizures (the "dry" form)

🩺 How is it diagnosed?
There is no single test that definitively diagnoses FIP. Veterinarians use a combination of physical examination findings, bloodwork, imaging (such as ultrasound or radiographs), analysis of body fluids when present, and specialized laboratory testing to reach a diagnosis.

💊 Can it be treated?
The answer today is YES! Years ago, FIP was almost always considered fatal. Thanks to advances in veterinary medicine, antiviral medications have dramatically changed the outlook for many cats with FIP. When diagnosed early and treated appropriately, many cats can achieve remission and go on to live happy, healthy lives.

We couldn't be happier for Benny and his wonderful family. Thank you for trusting us with his care, and thank you to Dr. Ladner for helping make stories like Benny's possible. ❤️

Help us celebrate Benny's progress by leaving him some love in the comments! 🐾🐈

🐾 Happy 4th of July from all of us at Northwood Hills Animal Hospital! 🐾

We hope you and your family have a fun, safe, and memorable Independence Day! While you're enjoying the celebrations, remember that fireworks and festivities can be stressful—and even dangerous—for our furry family members.

Here are a few tips to help keep your pets safe:
❤️ Keep pets indoors in a secure, quiet room during fireworks.
🎵 Turn on the TV or calming music to help mask loud noises.
🏷️ Make sure your pet is wearing a current ID tag and that their microchip information is up to date.
🚫 Keep pets away from fireworks, sparklers, alcoholic beverages, and holiday foods that could be harmful.
💊 If your pet experiences anxiety, be sure to give any prescribed calming medications as directed.

Wishing you a safe, happy, and pet-friendly 4th of July! 🇺🇸✨

Today during our lunch & learn, we had the opportunity to expand our knowledge of exotic pet care and handling .

Learning proper handling techniques helps us provide the best possible care for all of our patients whether they have fur, feathers, scales or shells.

We always appreciate the opportunity to continue growing our skills and knowledge so we can better serve our clients and their beloved pets.

Thank you to Dr .Hutto for bringing in a few of his personal exotic pets and providing hands-on continuing education for the team.

🐰💕 Double the fluff, double the fun! 💕🐰

Everyone meet Teddy and Thumper, two absolutely precious Lionhead bunny brothers who hopped into Northwood Hills Animal Hospital for their new patient wellness checkups!

Dr. Wigley and our team were completely smitten with these soft little bundles of fur. Between the fluffy manes, twitching noses, and sweet personalities, it's safe to say they stole a few hearts during their visit. 🥰

We also love seeing owners who have taken the time to do thorough research before bringing home a new species of pet. Whether it's rabbits, reptiles, birds, or pocket pets, understanding their unique needs is one of the most important steps in providing a happy, healthy life. It absolutely tickles our fancy when pet parents come prepared and committed to excellent care!

Help us give Teddy and Thumper a warm welcome in the comments! 🐇❤️

🎓🐾 **PUPPY GRADUATION DAY!** 🐾🎓

Everyone help us congratulate Ruby and Xander, these absolutely adorable Samoyed puppies, on graduating from their puppy vaccine series yesterday! 🎉❤️

It feels like just yesterday these fluffy siblings were coming in for their very first puppy visits, and now they have officially completed all of their puppy shots and are ready to take on the world! 🌎🐶

While Dr. Wigley and the entire Northwood Hills team are so excited to watch them continue to grow, we're definitely going to miss seeing their sweet faces every month. Thankfully, Mom promised to bring them by for plenty of happy visits, treats, belly rubs, and cuddles whenever she can! 🥰

Ruby and Xander have brought smiles to our staff at every appointment, and we can't wait to watch them grow into the beautiful dogs they're destined to be. ❤️

Drop a congratulations for these fluffy graduates in the comments! 👇🎓🐾
