I've been saying this for a long time. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it has to die.
Hello friends. I've got to discuss the content of this awful article with y'all.
First of all, I can't believe this article was even published with the despicable content of it. Alas, since it's all out there and in circulation, let's talk about it.
What happened in this article was deliberate animal cruelty. Had this been a cat or a dog or even a chicken or a duck, people would be in an uproar demanding that animal cruelty charges be pressed against the individual in this article. However, it was a snake. So the general consensus apparently doesn't care.
Long story short, and irresponsible keeper either released this non-native (non-venomous) Boa Constrictor or it escaped from an inadequate enclosure.
Either way, this snake was absolutely innocent, and did not ask to be cut loose in the middle of a concrete jungle of a town.
Poor thing was trying to cross the roadway, and this individual consiously CHOSE to run him over. When he noted the snake was still alive, he put in the extra effort of turning back around to run this snake over AGAIN.
Only then after doing that, he decided to go inside a nearby establishment to say something to someone. All of this is clearly stated in the article. No presumptions here.
We are 25 minutes from the location of where this occured. We would've took this animal in immediately, no questions asked.
We've recieved such calls from multiple surrounding cities and have dropped whatever we were doing at that moment to go pick up/secure animals that needed it.
This innocent animal was failed MULTIPLE times. By his keeper, and by the individual who decided to maliciously run this animal over TWICE with his vehicle, all because he was scared of it? Because it was a snake.
You can be afraid of something and LEAVE IT BE. It will NEVER be excusable to dispatch a living animal simply because you are/were conditioned to be scared of it. Snakes play a significant role in our eco system and provide us with a natural means of rodent control as well.
Granted, THIS specific snake is not native here in this part of the world. That doesn't mean he deserved to be intentionally ran over, let alone TWICE.
Myself and many other non-native reptile keepers would've gone and picked this animal up immediately had we been contacted.
We are here, we are a resource for any and all non-native reptiles. Please, if you or someone you know can no longer keep your exotic pet, REACH OUT. Even if we are at capacity, we will still take that animal and get it to a safe place. DO NOT RELEASE NON-NATIVE PETS. These animals do not deserve such fates.
I am physically sick to my stomach since reading about this incident. People can be so darn cruel.
