Red Wolf Update: A Big Step for Jenkins
If you’ve been following the journey of our two new red wolves, Jenkins and Walker, we have a wonderful milestone to share. Jenkins has been spotted exploring the yard of his habitat during the day.
This is an exciting sign that he’s becoming more comfortable in his surroundings and beginning to confidently investigate his new environment. For a species that is naturally shy and cautious, especially in human care, this kind of daytime exploration is a meaningful step forward.

Want to learn more about these critically endangered wolves? Come visit the Zoo and see conservation in action.

🌿 DYK?
Red wolves are one of the most critically endangered canids in the world.
A few key facts:
* Fewer than 20 red wolves remain in the wild today, all in eastern North Carolina.
* A little over 200 red wolves live under human care in zoos and wildlife centers.
* The SAFE (Saving Animals From Extinction) American Red Wolf Program works to research, breed, and prepare these wolves for potential release back into the wild.
* Protecting red wolves helps protect entire ecosystems by keeping populations of deer, raccoons, and rodents in balance.

We’re out and about at the BB-Q & Blues Cook Off in Downtown Foley!

Come on out and see us — we’ve brought some of our favorite Animal Ambassadors along for the fun!

Say hello to Rose the opossum, Lucy the three‑banded armadillo, Mia the Central American boa, and Mailbox the box turtle. They’re soaking up the sunshine, the music, and all the friendly faces.

If you’re wandering the festival today, swing by and visit. We’d love to see you!

🐻🎨 Boodah Update!

Boodah has officially awoken from his beauty sleep… but let’s just say he was not in a painting mood today. We tried to get him in on the Art on the Wild Side fun, but he made it very clear he needed a minute — or, you know, maybe more — to get those creative juices flowing.

Just like the rest of us, even a bear needs his wake‑up time.

But don’t worry — you can still check out his bear‑illiant artwork during the Art on the Wild Side online auction.
