🐾☀️ Caesar the Serval Starts His Day in Style! ☀️🐾
This morning at the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo, our sleek and spotted friend Caesar the serval enjoyed a little extra enrichment with his breakfast! 🍗🌿
Keepers placed his morning diet on a raised feeding platform—adding a fun challenge and encouraging Caesar’s natural instincts to climb, pounce, and explore. With those long legs and keen senses, he made quick work of the goodies!
Servals are known for their agility and precision, and Caesar shows us just how wild elegance looks in motion. 🐆
🎥 Watch the video to see Caesar in action—starting his day with curiosity, grace, and a well-earned meal.

Meet Rose & Bud – our newest animal ambassadors!

These Virginia opossums may be small, but they have big roles to play here at the zoo. Both are non-releasable due to special needs—Rose is missing the last two inches of her tail, and Bud is blind. They came to us from the Wildlife Sanctuary of Northwest Florida in Pensacola, and we’re thrilled to welcome them!

Rose & Bud will help educate guests about the important role opossums play in our local ecosystems. 🐾 You might spot them during our daily walkabouts or out in the community.

📅 Check our daily presentation schedule to see when you can meet them in person!

Monday Motivation from Cheetahs, Shani & Taj!
Today’s enrichment was all about thinking outside the box—literally.

We hid their favorite snack (bones they’ll chew on for hours!) inside a box placed just above their usual line of sight. The challenge? Look up, tear it open, and claim the prize.

But let’s just say…
Shani was more focused on serving fierce looks to the camera.
Taj? She decided the box itself was the snack.

They didn’t crack the puzzle yet, but that just means a surprise treat is waiting when they do. Sometimes motivation isn’t instant—it’s hiding just above where you’re used to looking. 👀

🦁 Happy World Lion Day! 🦁
Male lions aren’t just about looks—their manes protect them during fights and signal their strength and health.

Daniel is playful and curious—he loves sticks, a favorite rock, and learning new behaviors.
Chadwick is our biggest lion and more reserved, but he’s making great progress in training thanks to Keeper Ashlyn’s patient work.

Lions are listed as Vulnerable in the wild. Today, we honor these amazing animals and the need to protect them. 🧡

World Lion Day is almost here! 🦁
We're celebrating our incredible lionesses, Nandi and Regina, who show just how smart and powerful female lions truly are.

Nandi (turning 7 in Sept) has lived at AGCZ since she was 3 months old. She's sweet with her keepers, loves training, and even helps with her healthcare—like standing still for injections and showing off her paws!

Regina just turned 5. She’s fierce, full of personality, and learns fast—especially when treats are involved.

Lions are listed as Vulnerable, and their wild populations are declining. This World Lion Day, let’s raise awareness for their future.

🐾 Big Cat Week Spotlight: Cheetahs 🐾
Cheetahs may be famous for their speed—reaching up to 70 mph!—but did you know they aren’t technically considered “big cats”?
That’s because cheetahs can’t roar. True big cats (like lions, tigers, leopards, and jaguars) share a special voice box structure that allows roaring. Cheetahs chirp, hiss, and purr instead—just one of many unique traits that set them apart!
Built for speed, not strength, cheetahs have slender frames, deep chests, and long tails to help them balance during high-speed chases. Sadly, fewer than 7,000 remain in the wild, and they’re listed as Vulnerable due to habitat loss and human-wildlife conflict.
This Big Cat Week, let’s give these not-so-big cats the attention they deserve! 🧡

Happy International Clouded Leopard Day - Today we’re celebrating the mysterious and beautiful clouded leopard—a Vulnerable species facing threats like habitat loss and poaching.

Here at the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo, we’re lucky to care for two amazing girls:

Belle (age 6) loves shrimp, fish pops, and ice enrichment.
Aurora (age 7) is pumpkin-obsessed, vocal with her keepers, and full of personality.

Belle and Aurora help us teach others about the importance of protecting clouded leopards in the wild. 💚

🧡 Want to take this connection further? Book the Capybara Premium Experience at The Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo! You’ll spend 45 magical minutes feeding, training, and co-creating a painting with Kyra the Capybara — our laid-back artist-in-residence.

This soulful encounter is available on select days and must be reserved in advance.Explore Premium Animal Experiences and step into capybara calm when you’re ready to vibe.
