Hello, my name is Cory Smith and I am the owner / operator of Black Dog Shields. My goal to you the customer is to provide great quality, medieval style products for those who may not possess the time or the tools necessary to make it themselves at an affordable price. The products that I offer are as follows, prices and variations of the products included in the description.
⦁ Folding armor stand
Wooden folding stand that collapses down for transport constructed of sturdy wood and metal hinges stained or painted to the customer’s preference then sealed. Also product comes with two hand forged stakes to improve stability in windy environments. $100.00
⦁ Viking style chair
Constructed from 2"x12" lumber it’s a reclined style chair, simple, study and comfortable stained or painted to customers preference and sealed. $70.00
⦁ Collapsible table
A three piece puzzle style breakdown table, constructed with 1/2" high quality plywood stained or painted to the customer's preference then sealed. The table can be any of the simple designs listed and the design cannot exceed 24"x24". A convenient chair or bedside table to keep needed items close and in easy reach while keeping a medieval feel. $80.00
⦁ Wooden breakdown bedframe
A sturdy breakdown bedframe made from 2"x10" for the frame and 4"x4" for the legs held together with metal hinges. Stained or painted to the customer’s preference then sealed. this product is made to any standard bed frame size per customer specifications this bed frame does not have to come with slats however if desired I will make them from 1"x12" 's they come in a set of 6. You will need slats to hold your mattress but you can make those yourself if you would like to cut down the total cost including the shipping and handling if you want it shipped. $175.00 without slats or $250.00 with slats.
⦁ Wooden shield
A strong lightweight shield constructed of laminated birch wood for strength and weight conservation this particular item comes with a variety of options they are as follows
⦁ Shield blank, this is just the laminated birch wood cut to the customer’s preferences and curved to the specifications for the client. Also if desired I can mark and drill holes for shield edging, shield boss, or shield handle, and straps for no additional charge. $80.00
⦁ Basic shield, this option is an almost ready to fight Shield. The full details are, a birch shield cut and curved to customer’s specifications, the shield also comes with rope and canvas edging sewn down with sinew, a shallow aluminum shield boss, and a shaped 2"x2" handle that runs the length of the shield for added support and strength. For this option if desired I can stain and seal the back of the shield so the only thing a customer will need to do to make the shield field ready is paint the front. $150.00
⦁ Custom shield this option is exactly that, its anything other than the two offers previously. Everything from a completely done shield with a custom paint job, to an all piece kit to put together yourself, any and all variants from the two options above will be considered a "custom" shield option and with that prices will vary from shield to shield depending on what the client desires.
⦁ Aluminum shield
A "forever" shield if the owner takes care of it, with minimal maintenance an aluminum shield will last for years but, that is just the blank. The edging, canvas cover (if desired), and paintjob will need routine maintenance. Other than the basics aluminum is a very good shield material and will protect you for many years. This shield option can cut to any shape and given as deep of a curve as requested unfortunately due to the cost of the material I cannot give a price for shield blanks until I know what you want. However, I do offer a variety of additional options for an aluminum shield such as, shield edging "car door edging" by a common name this is covered with canvas a sewn down with sinew, canvas covering the shield this is a laminate over the front of the shield yes it does add some weight but it provides a more period look and holds paint much better, shield basket or shield boss with handle or strap, and finally custom paintjob all of these options vary depending on the shield blank and difficulty of paint scheme (if any) which drives this price into the per customer variety
A Final Note
I do offer custom paintjobs on all of my products all paintjobs in this manner will be charged on a case to case basis, the factors I look at that will drive the prices will be amount of paint used overall, variety of colors, and complexity of design. Also, to reach general understanding for the ease of transactions between me and you the customer all of my items for sale are a custom handmade piece for you. I do not have a bunch of these sitting on a shelve and simply send it to you, with that in mind it will take some time for me to make and send you your item(s). I can assure you however that I will work tirelessly to provide high quality work as fast as humanly possible. With my products I require the entire payment up front for me to get started with your custom creation. I will ship any of these items however, I strongly recommend against asking to mail the Viking chair or bedframe both are very bulky and heavy and would make the shipping and handling expensive, so I do advise against it. If you are looking to purchase any of these items and pick it up I make it to Meridian events as frequently as I can so it will be easy to arrange a pick up if desired. I will be attending Gulf Wars most years.
