Hoof or Paw, a Non-Profit Corporation

Hoof or Paw, a Non-Profit Corporation Our goal is reduce the number of stray animals and promote responsible pet ownership in our community Need to contact us? Only call 9-1-1 for human emergencies.

We do NOT pick up animals, investigate cases of abuse or provide any sort of veterinary services. You will need to contact the funded Marion/Winston Animal Shelter (MWAS) at (205) 487-2581 as they are contracted and paid by Marion County and its' cities to handle stray pick ups. If there are any issues, comments, concerns or recommendations of the service you receive from MWAS, please county the M

arion County Commission at (205) 921-3172 as they handle the contract for MWAS. Our goal is to be able to take overflow from the county funded shelter, not to provide as the primary shelter because of physical space and financial constraints of being a donation and volunteer based facility/organization. email as at [email protected]

This was brought to our attention.
Oh Cheryl, back at it.

We help all day long if we can get fosters but we’ve not been contacted about that dog, and being 8 months pregnant i dont patrol social media searching for posts of animals needing help because it would be never ending. we have no sort of contract saying we are to pick up dogs or “take up slack” although that was our original intent but the county lady didn’t want to work with us. Our physical facility is full after taking in all the Walmart dogs and waiting for their rescue commitment to take them. You know how many step up to foster??? 1 out of 20 because we cant guarantee a timeline of how long itll be that they have them. She could see the improvements we’ve been doing if she wasn’t almost trespassed from our property and run off from where she was because of her crazy antics.

Once again……we are all just volunteers here doing the best we can.

HELPING ABUSED CHILDREN AND ADULTS BY REPORTING ANIMAL CRUELTY

Abusers of children, elders and vulnerable individuals won’t likely boast about or admit to their abusive behaviors. However, law enforcement studies have indicated that these abusive individuals often admit to…even brag about…their maltreatment and abuse of animals.

Perhaps these abusers don’t believe that animal abuse is a serious matter or, perhaps, they believe that their local law enforcement agencies have little interest in pursuing animal abusers. Whatever the reason, we need to pay attention to any and all admissions of animal cruelty.

Additionally, those working with young children should be alert to reports, from these children, about frequently “disappearing” pets and/or repeated animal deaths in their home.

While pets do wander off and many sadly die, and while animals do get injured from time to time, repeated instances of missing, deceased and/or injured pets could be an indication of existing abuse of family members and may serve as a warning of future violence.

It is critically important that community members report concerns regarding any type of abuse and recognize the link between animal cruelty and family violence.

“See something. Say something. Make the call.”

These boys were an unexpected surprise. We wound up getting a 2 for 1 deal. 😂

We lost our sweet beagles after 15 years and our pup Pheebe was depressed after being a part of their pack so long, so we decided to rescue Lincoln and a few months later, his brother, Oliver, needed to be pulled from a rough home so we took him in.

We thought we were signing up for an Australian Sheppard, I believe, but we wound up with Golden Retriever, Lab & Great Pyrenees mixes. The husband had swore we’d never have a Golden. 😂

They are the perfect mix of goofy, loyal, protective, stubborn and loving. 🥰

If you’re local and looking for a new pup, Hoof or Paw, a Non-Profit Corporation can definitely help you with that. She helped us find our boys.

** They are overrun with animals and not enough adoptions right now so do not contact her about any animals needing picked up please and thank you. **

Walmart dog update as of 12/6, all of these pictured have been caught and already moved to rescue or in a safe place with food, water and shelter until their rescue spot is open! We have 1 adult female and 2 adult males left to trap! Please do NOT feed them so they will eat out of the traps we have set so they can be safely caught!

Walmart dogs pupdate as of 12/1!
we’ve caught 4 total (adult female, older white male pup, 2 younger male pups), we know there are at least 3 adult males, 1 adult female, and 1 small pup left. We have 3 traps containing food refilled and checked multiple times a day set on the Walmart property. Please resist the urge to feed these dogs so they will be enticed to go to the food inside the traps so we can get them removed and some help. Pouring bags of food out for these street smart dogs is only hindering them getting the help they need.
