Hoof or Paw, a Non-Profit Corporation Our goal is reduce the number of stray animals and promote responsible pet ownership in our community Need to contact us? Only call 9-1-1 for human emergencies.

We do NOT pick up animals, investigate cases of abuse or provide any sort of veterinary services. You will need to contact the funded Marion/Winston Animal Shelter (MWAS) at (205) 487-2581 as they are contracted and paid by Marion County and its' cities to handle stray pick ups. If there are any issues, comments, concerns or recommendations of the service you receive from MWAS, please county the M

arion County Commission at (205) 921-3172 as they handle the contract for MWAS. Our goal is to be able to take overflow from the county funded shelter, not to provide as the primary shelter because of physical space and financial constraints of being a donation and volunteer based facility/organization. email as at [email protected]

Does anyone know who owns the GSP that lives behind Rocky Grove Baptist Church at Weston? It’s about to get hit chasing cars near where you turn to go to Jerry Brown Pottery

I find it comical when people say goldendoodle/labradoodle or whatever doodle then add that it’s a mix, all doodles are mixes. No matter which way you look at it, crossing one breed with any other breed is a mixed breed.

Finally getting ready to start moving our pens back to the building, mid July at the absolute latest, and we need about 15 of these elevated pet beds from our wish list!

📣 Letting stray/unwanted puppies or kittens hang around and not seeking help to spay neuter them contributes to the problem. Dogs can have their first heat cycle as early as 6 months old, sometimes sooner; cats can have their first heat cycle as early as 4 months old and can get also get pregnant while nursing. Another fun fact, cats do not release eggs to be fertilized until they’ve actually been bred, referred to as induced ovulation. 📣

If you have cats/kittens, puppies/dogs hanging around we are happy to help get them fixed even though we may not be able to physically take them
In at this time. Email [email protected]

A Heartbreaking Reality Rescues, Including Us, Face:

As a small, volunteer-run rescue with limited shelter constricted by finances and no paid staff, we currently rely entirely on foster homes to care for the animals we take in. Every dog we have recently saved has a place to go because a kind-hearted person steps up to foster.

But when animals are brought to us, demanded that we take, or abandoned without an available foster, we are forced to make heartbreaking decisions. Without space, resources, or options, there is no choice but to have them humanely euthanized—not because they are unwanted or unworthy, but because there is simply nowhere safe for them to go.

This is the painful truth behind rescue work that often goes unseen. We never want to say no. We never want to give up on a life. But we are only as strong as our community.

How You Can Help:
• Foster. One open home can save a life.
• Donate to help us expand our capacity and provide more options.
• If you come across stray animals or they come to you at least take advantage of the help to spay/neuter them, not 3 months after they’ve been at your place and become pregnant but making arrangements 7 days after no owner has come forward for them. You think Its hard to place 1? Try multiples. And fact - those are no longer strays they’re now yours.
• Share this message. Awareness brings change.

We believe in transparency, compassion, and doing everything we can with what we have. Thank you for understanding, supporting, and standing with us.

Note: euthanasia is not something we are currently doing, but with increasing requests, demands, etc. and decreasing space and foster homes it’s likely to become a reality in the near future, and not just for us but others like us.

If you have a plan in place for yourself and your dogs, you will likely face fewer challenges, stress, and worry when making a decision in an emergency. If local officials ask you to evacuate, your pet should also go. If you leave your pets behind, they may become lost, wounded, or worse.
