Trying a new setup for our hatchling colubrids. Something that blends the comfort and convenience of a tub with the enrichment of a terrarium. What are your thoughts? 👀

This patternless rock is truly a work of art. You might still be wondering “why African rock pythons?” 🤷‍♂️

Working with species that don’t have endless genetic combos keeps the focus where it should be — on health, structure, and selectively breeding for quality.

When the palette’s limited, only real artists stand out.

Life with her is like raising a highly caffeinated toddler with fur. She doesn’t play with toys — she relocates and destroys. One minute they’re in the house… next minute the yard looks like a daycare war zone. I'm starting to think it's a game and I'm losing BIG TIME 🧸🐾

We don't share this african rock enough. I think she's stunning, even in shed. What do you think?

Everyone sees the eggs and thinks “wow, that’s cool.”
What they don’t see are the quiet weeks of pairing, the temperature checks, the careful feeding cycles, and the patience it takes to let nature work on its own time.
It’s not about chasing luck—it’s about showing up, learning from each season, and giving the animals what they need to thrive.
So when she finally lays, especially on Halloween, it feels a little extra special.
No tricks—just treats. A reminder that consistency pays off. 🐍🎃

We missed being able to breed these beautiful babies. Pied burms will always be in our top 5!!!!

Origin story

I've had a passion for keeping reptiles since before I can remember. After years of trial and error I successfully bred a pair of Baja Rosy Boas in 1998 at the young age of 13yrs old. I can remember that overwhelming joy like it was yesterday. At that moment I knew breeding reptiles would always be apart of my life. I spent the next 10 years working with multiple species including GTP, Carpet Pythons, Matlocks, Blood Pythons, Milksnakes, etc... During that time I struggled to consistently breed my animals. It was around 2003 I decided to focus on the larger constructors. This was the true birth of BDH although the name wasn't established until 2012.

Throughout the years I've had the opportunity to partner with some amazing people that helped us execute our vision. One in particular was my brother Robert Strickland. He had always kept reptiles and been down for a long road trip to pick-up something unique. It wasn’t until 2010 he officially joined the BDH movement. His persistence to breed ball pythons added another chapter to our story. I can remember joking that ball pythons were $5 snakes that make bad breeders feel good about themselves. It was inevitable one day a ball would catch my eye to change that mind set. It was a female Mystic Spider produced by Conley Herps that started our venture into the endless world of Ball python genetics.

Now fast forward a few more years, I still get excited watching eggs hatch and lose sleep wondering what genetic marvels are to come. As a hobbyist, breeder and passionate keeper I strongly believe it's our responsibility to enrich the lives of the people around us by sharing our experiences and love for these beautiful animals. I hope one day to inspire others to follow their dreams and never settle for less.
