I had a business meeting in St Augustine, FL today. Rick drove me, I had my laptop open doing research, preparing for my 1:00 meeting. The day ended, great meeting, I and a partner got the job, very productive day.

Side note: We sold Rick’s manufacturing business several years back. He was contracted to rebuild many Lighthouse Fresnel Lens parts. Sitting here on the rooftop bar, we are literally overlooking one of his jobs. St Augustine Lighthouse. Someone shot the Fresnel Lens, so it had to be replaced and updated. Rick’s company provided the brass structure, Art Works Floria, Dan Spinella had the contract for the total repair. With this, we decided to stay the night and explore this historic town.

The barn: I have farm help through Sunday evening. I feed 12 horses twice a day, clean many stalls, sweat in this Florida weather, but it is good for my soul and I burn calories. We booked a room at the Hyatt. Meeting friends for breakfast. This is a last minute, it is a well deserved break.

I have not posted lately. I’ve been out on a few trips. Costa Rica fishing, and now I’m in Wyoming. This is a funny. We are seeing a lot of wildlife, thought I should put my humor to paper🤦🏻‍♀️. It is always good to take a break from the farm. Much needed break from the action!

We Rocked the breeding season. Seemed everyone got a late start, with this. Another go around as we head into July would not be good. Bred Ewan to 4 mares. Two were out of state. All 4 mares caught! Excellent job!! Next spring we should have 4 Moss-side babies on the ground!

We are back on the Lakes today. I’ve lived here for 25 years. I have to admit, it is hot hot. Horses are all inside under fans. Ewan driving lessons are early am. Water temp is 95 degrees. We probably will run over to the Sandbar in Mt Dora to take a dip. It is HOT HOT out here on the water. We are still breaking in the new Suzuki Outboards. Need 15 hours, we are on 11 now.

Wow! What a day! I took my mare to EMCO Repro today. She was ready to breed. Vet asked where is the Stallion, can you get him here quickly? Luckily he is at Linda and Larry Poulins, 25 miles away. Hour round trip. Rick went with me, so off we went! Yesterday I received a call from a Highland Pony mare out in the Western US. Her vet called while I was at the clinic. That mare is ready also. So, her doses are being overnighted at 4:30. This week, Ewan covered 4 mares! Not bad for his first season!!

Long day yesterday. I was up at 5:00. Fed the horses. Trailer was hooked up. Drove to Williston, which is a good 1:45 to 2 hour drive depending on the traffic, picked Ewan up, then 20 minutes over to the Repro center. Equine Medical Center of Ocala, EMCO. Unloaded and hung out there for a few hours while they worked on collecting Ewan. First go around, he couldn’t make it work 🫣young man;) I left and they called me to come back. Success! Think maybe he didn’t like his Mom watching! One shipment went to an out of state mare. Second collection was for my mare, Mona Lisa. She is on the other side of Ocala, another half hour away. Tracy, that owns Jillian took the semen over to her farm to wait for the vet. Then I loaded Ewan up and ran him back to Linda and Larry Poulins Farm. He will be there another month, more than likely. After that, I drove across town, another hours drive- to meet Tracy and the Vet to inseminate MonaLisa. Vet had an emergency colic, she was really late. I’m not sure we didn’t miss the ovulation. If we did, nobody’s fault. Lots of moving parts. It’s always best to take the mare to the Repro center. Leave her. The vets follow the follicle, then I bring the stallion. Breed. Take the stallion. (Last year I loaded Ewan first, then put Mona Lisa at the back of the trailer, that worked just fine.) Home, then run back up to bring the mare home. About 2 weeks later, I take the mare back up to EMCO for a pregnancy check. That sounds difficult, but I feel this gives me the best odds of a successful breeding. Yesterday was a perfect reminder why I don’t like to deal with local vets and non Repro centers. Simply too many players, and not having hands on to follow the follicle. It can be very frustrating and a waste of time, effort, and money. Although, never a second thought if she catches, right?

Little Jillian and the Belesemo Arabian mare, Mona Lisa. Little frisky today. We bred Mona back to Ewan today. Didn’t take her to the Repro clinic with the foal in her side. Vet couldn’t get to the farm early enough, hope we didn’t miss the timing.
