Please remember dogs loose weight rapidly in cold temps.
Extra food if they are outside and proper shelter.

Bitterly cold temperatures and a significant chance of snow are expected to arrive early Tuesday morning.❄️

BRING THEM INSIDE: While it’s best to bring all pets indoors, if they must stay outside, ensure they have adequate protection from the cold.

PROVIDE SHELTER: When temperatures drop below 45 degrees, ensure your dog has access to an insulated doghouse, garage, or shed to help keep them warm. Dogs that are used to living indoors or in milder climates should not be left outside in freezing conditions. Make sure the shelter is easily accessible, as you may not be home when temperatures plummet.

INSULATE SHELTER: While a plastic or wooden doghouse can shield them from the wind, it won't provide warmth on its own. Insulate outdoor shelters with straw bedding—not hay. Fill the shelter with straw along the sides and back, allowing your pet to burrow down inside. Bales of straw typically cost $10 or less at local feed stores and can fill 3-4 doghouses. Avoid using blankets or fabric for insulation, as these materials absorb moisture from the air and can make your pet colder.

WATER: It’s crucial that outdoor pets have access to unfrozen, fresh water at all times. Regularly check outdoor water sources during freezing temperatures. Heated water bowls are available at pet supply and feed stores to help prevent freezing.

OAA will have free straw bedding for those in need tomorrow (February 17) beginning at 10:00 AM. Pickup is available at 7140 S 69th E Ave, Tulsa, OK, while supplies last.
