This morning's initial post first gained traction through hostile responses from personal acquaintances (exactly who we had been warned about) of Maddie's. Due to our forewarning and the heated nature of these posts, we were unwilling to listen.

However, further input from many members of the local pet community, as well as correspondence with the vet listed on the records we received, were much more thoughtful in their outreach and had detailed explanations to offer. We thank everyone for taking time out of their busy days to voice their concerns. I am saddened to know that I was conned by this individual in being lead to think that hiring her was a sound business choice. I would like to offer reassurance that she was under close personal supervision at all times, and we guarantee no harm came to anyone who was under our care. She showed a great rapport with the clients who followed her to our salon and incredible care in handling their pups with a focus on exactly what each dog needed in the moment. Based on the skills she demonstrated in person we were so excited to have her on board. Sadly the level of her involvement in the heinous allegations brought forth is much more direct than we were lead to believe. Those with personal ties to her can attest to how smoothly she can spin the truth.

We are taking this as a lesson learned, that face to face interviews, background checks, personal references, vet records, and dated photos are not necessarily enough to hire the right people. This ordeal has taken a great emotional toll on all of our team members and we are not going to respond to anything further at this time. Thank you again to everyone in the community who has our pets' well-being at heart. You have been heard.

Edit: Due to mass community alarm and further accusations that we cannot currently verify (from sources not directly related to the situation), we have removed Maddie from the schedule. We are listening to our community and trying to do the right thing. We have reasons as to why we offered Maddie a place on the team which have been explained. We also understand that despite having thought we did our due diligence, we have missed information. We appreciate everyone's concern and hope that you can understand we meant no harm and were only trying to find a groomer with incredible skill to bolster our team. We own our mistakes as well as our triumphs and will not be burying this conversation under the rug. We hope this shows our integrity and that you will continue to trust your wonderful pets to our loving care.

A non client has taken it upon themselves to attack our business over a recent hiring decision. They're making loud accusations of gross misdemeanors against this person and plan to blast us all over the internet.

What we can say about this is that the background check on this groomer is clear except for a traffic violation. We have screened her in person and checked references. She shows patience and kindness in her handling of the dogs, and we have 24hr surveillance in the grooming shop should we ever have concerns about employee conduct. If anyone has concerns about these accusations please reach out to us but we will not tolerate harassment from the perpetrators.

WHAT YOU DON'T SEE AT THE DOG GROOMERS

You dropped your dog off at the salon and picked them up few hours later - fluffy, fresh, and happy. But what you saw was just the tip of the iceberg.

You didn’t see your groomer arrive early to open up the salon, disinfect tools, lay out fresh towels, and check the day’s appointments. You didn’t see them look over your dog from nose to tail before even lifting a brush - checking the coat condition, skin, eyes, ears, nails, and weight.

You didn’t see the careful way they clipped around a wriggly paw, or how they paused to let your dog calm down during the bath. You didn’t notice the matting hidden beneath your dog’s topcoat, or the way the groomer worked slowly to avoid hurting the skin beneath it.

You weren’t there when they spotted a red patch of irritated skin, or a small lump you hadn’t noticed. You heard them gently mention it to you at collection - not to worry you, but because they genuinely care about your dog’s wellbeing.

And after you left, you didn’t see the clean-down , the floor swept, tables cleaned, blades oiled, messages replied to, notes written up for your next visit, and laundry on again.

All of that… for a price that’s often lower than what you’d pay for your own haircut. And your hairdresser?
They don’t have to bathe you, clip your nails, or hold you still while you try to bite the brush.

The truth is ……. dog grooming is so much more than a haircut.

It’s about health, hygiene, comfort, and trust. It’s about knowing dog anatomy, coat types, skin conditions, behaviour management, handling skills, and safe sc******ng techniques. It’s a profession that takes training, practice, and patience.
Most groomers got into this work because they love dogs. But that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be paid fairly for the physical, emotional, and skilled work they do every single day.

If your dog leaves their groomer happy, healthy and looking good - it’s not by luck. It’s because you have got a good groomer.
So next time, take a moment to thank them. Leave a review.

Tip them if you can. And above all - don’t undervalue them. They’re doing far more than just washing the dog.

I love looking back at previous groomes and it's so fun seeing pups I've groomed for ages, but sometimes it's sad to remember favorites who are no longer clients. Wishing the best for these wonderful pups and all the others I can't picture!

Our Story

Hi! My name is Christina and I am the owner and operator here at The Dawg Shoppe Pet Salon & Spa. I have ten years of grooming experience in both the private and corporation industries. The Dawg Shoppe came into existence after grooming from my Grove City home for quite some time. My space became to small and my availability was becoming tight. I then decided to relocate into a storefront salon in historical downtown Grove City. After a year at our first location and adding three more stylists to my team, we needed more space. We then relocated to 3965 Hoover Rd (Next to Big Lots). It was there when our team grew by two more professional, passionate stylists. We offer affordable prices and convenient appointment times ranging from mornings, afternoons, evenings and weekends Each pet can be finished in just about two hours. There is no job too small, We even offer nail trims for $10.00. Full Grooms start at $45.00 and Bath and Brush Packages start at $20.00. Call or Message us today to schedule your pup's next spa day! 614-594-2240
