Wellllll.... these didn't quite turn out how I imagined πŸ˜‚

I strongly believe in using as much of the animal as possible. A friend needed help processing a goat, so off i went. I made sure to bring home all the good bits for the dog. I usually dehydrate my rabbit pelts and he loves rabbit ears, so I thought the goat ears would turn out magnificently....

I didn't consider they would crinkle up like this πŸ™ƒ
Thankfully he didnt care how wierd they looked. He loved them once he figured out how to eat them. Definitely going to snag all the goat ears from now on!

The battle against the scotchbroom continues. We ended up finding a steel cable that didnt snap like the rope we were using before and tying it to the truck/tractor to pull them out easier. It works, but it's slow going. Tying and untying each one individually takes the longest. And of course, the blackberry intertwined makes it even more tricky.

We managed to get a pretty big bunch out. And of course I forgot to take a before picture. It still doesn’t look like we made much of a dent... even after 2+ hours of work. There's a ton more to go... practically a forest's worth... not exaggerating at least a few acres.

Any other good ideas to get this stuff out faster? I'm pretty sure I'll be 1000 years old before we get it all β˜ οΈπŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«πŸ™„

For those that don't know, I'm a huge blueberry lover. We planted a bunch of blueberries last winter/spring, but sadly the deer really did some damage.

We still got a tiny crop, but now that they're dormant and its been really wet, I figured its a good time to get out there and w**d them. Also got some wonderful rabbit p**p and bedding to mulch them with. Underneath it all, I added the paper bags I save from the bunny pellets in an attempt to help keep the w**ds down. Plus the earthworms love the bags and the bunny p**p so its a win win.

Between getting deer gates put up and keeping the w**ds down, I hope we'll have a good crop this coming year. Got 5 more to do next time its not raining.

With all the rain, progress is fairly slow going. But little by little things are coming together.

Got most of the metal paneling on the back wall done. Starting on the sides because its something I can kind of do out of the rain. But gotta pour another concrete post so hoping for some dry weather soon. Otherwise I'll probably resort to using tarps to give me a little more cover till it sets.

As I'm out in my current rabbitat set up, all the rain is reminding me why I really wanted to get this done before the rain came this fall.... oh well, it sure will be nice to be able to feed them without getting soaked someday.

Fingers crossed for a few dry days so I can make some headway! πŸ€žπŸ€žπŸ‡πŸ‡πŸ›–

Wish this photo came out as pretty as it looked in real life. Alas, my phone camera has its limits. It's still nice enough to share though.

With this atmospheric river coming through, its been so wet and cloudy. I love seeing the moon peeking out trying to make its appearance before more rain comes.

Ok, so it doesn't look like much yet, but this will be the new rabbitat's first line of defense against larger predators. I know, I know, it probably wouldn't withstand a bear... but hopefully it'll make it too much of a bother for them to want to go further.

The concept behind this is to have a safe enclosure that grows yummy things (for bunnies) that I can let them into while supervised. It would provide shade in the summer once the grape vines grow up onto it. But it'll also provide a buffer between the buns and the "outside" world.

The last picture is what the design is based off of. My dad really liked the way our deck looked when we redid it a few years back so I figured I'd build it like that so he could see something pretty when he looks out of his window.

I got the concrete for the first 3 posts poured and the posts set. Now just gotta get the cattle panels installed and I can start working my way around to the next wall... got to figure out how to build a door that's not going to create a weak point in the whole thing.

Lots to do, no time to do it. Story of my life πŸ™ƒ

Today I'm thankful for all the people in my life that have encouraged me to grow my skills and interests. I'm also grateful for good friends that inspire me and include me in their farm fun activities.

One day, I will raise my own turkeys. For now, I'm happy for the opportunity to learn from others and the ability to dream big.

It's always fun to watch the land as the season changes. It's amazing how many new things we get to see if we take a moment to look.

Went for a little walk around the other day and saw these cool mushrooms. I've never seen so many different types of mushrooms!

For those that may not know - mushrooms can be poisonous. Don't eat them if you aren't 100% sure of what they are.

I am not a good mushrooms identifier... so I just look, no picking for me.

We had quite the eventful weekend and I can't say ive quite recovered. As many of you know, I have a million projects going at once. Well this is Project Pump House. The goal is to build a new one as the current one is rotting, cramped, and the critters are living in the insulation.

Anyways, as we were digging the perimeter for the new foundation, we hit the pipe that goes to the main house. It really sucked because we made a ton of mud, but also discovered that the pipe is nowhere near deep enough to be below the frost line...

We got the broken bit patched no problem, but then when turning the water back on, the piece with the valves broke and sprayed water everywhere inside the pump house. We got it under control, but the nearest Ace Harware was closing in less than 30 minutes and it was a 20 minute drive to get there.

I rushed off like a crazy person and miraculously managed to make it in time and get back to get it all repaired before the night was over.

Something must have gone wrong in the repair because theres a teensy dribble of water coming from one of the joints... so now to figure out how to either make it stop or replace the whole system with pex.... ugh decisions decisions

This time of year is mostly rainy and dreary, but every once in a while sunsets like this happen and make it all worth it. The camera just doesn't capture the beauty like seeing it in person, but still makes for a nice picture. Hopefully we'll get more sunsets like these between the soggy days.

In my opinion, rabbit liver is the best of all livers. Its not a squishy as chicken liver and a bit more mild than beef liver. Its easy to handle and easy to cook.

Liver is a super food - its rich in Iron and lots of other vitamins and minerals that are good for our health. For the ladies, it can help with hormone regulation and balance.

I know for lots of people it can be hard to eat, but seasoned well and fried in a healthy tasty fat, it's not bad at all. Over here we love pairing it with eggs for a strong start to our morning.

Google told me this was some sort of toxic cucumber variety... I let it grow just to see. Looks to me like its actually a cantelope.

Mught be the world's smallest cantelope. They don't do so well in this climate as they need more time to ripen, but we get cold before theyre ready.

If you pick a shorter season variety and/or grow them in a greenhouse, they do better... I'm told... however this guy was a volunteer from the compost pile. Not sure what variety it was, but I decided to pick it as something was beginning to nibble on it.

Definitely not the worst cantelope I've eaten, especially considering it wasn't quite orange yet... but also not the best cantelope either.

Next year I might try to plant a short season variety on purpose in the greenhouse. We'll see πŸ‘€
