So I havent posted in a cool minute.... busy with life n stuff. I'm there, minding my own business when I get this notification that says my page is no longer being recommended. That I violated some community standard or some vague thing. Of course, I can't find anything specific as to what I did, there's no human to help sort this out, and no real guidance as to how to get this fixed.
I'm a bit over this whole system anyway. Facebook is a tyrannical slave driver that pays pennies for hours worth of work trying to dress it up in a way thay makes "creators" still want to participate.
The whole purpose of this page was just to be able to share my bunnies with people... and some garden stuff. But FB has really taken thr joy out of it. And then on top of that, other pages are stealing my bunny videos (not giving me any credit) and what does FB do about it???? Nothing of course!!!! 😑😑😑😑
Not sure if I'll keep posting... but while I decide whether I want the FB algorithm to dictate my life, I'll keep doing what I'm doing.

Haven't felt much like posting for a while. Been busy doing all the things. But here's a future rabbitat update.

Got a lot done with all the good weather we've had. The big heavy post went in for the front wall and got the side wall and doorways done. So its really coming along, but still feels like so much more to do - doors, 2nd half of front wall, flooring, nest boxes, and miscellaneous details.

Currently stuffing all the holes on the back wall (in the metal grooves) with steel wool to keep mice and snakes out. Then have to figure out how to rodent proof the edge before putting up plywood to keep the pressure treated wood on the bottom from being chewed.

Any guesses as to when the buns will finally be able to move in?

Chewie saves the day!

One day, a few weeks ago, I was doing the usual feeding of the bunnies. Chewie was in there with me doing his usual sniffing. The baby bunnies didn’t have their eyes open yet and had no business being outside of their nest.

As I was pouring water, I noticed Chewie sniffing intently at a cinder block I put for the babies to hide and play in. He then laid done and kept his nose near the opening. I decided to take a look since he was obviously trying to tell me something was in there.

I peeked in and sure enough, there was a baby bunny that had somehow gotten out of his nest. If Chewie hadn't noticed it, I doubt the little bun would have found his way back to the nest and he likely would have starved and/or chilled to death.

well that escalated quickly... more wind this week, on day 4 now... didnt get the fence repaired. Definitely worse now.

The whole panel just plopped down. Now Chewie has an even bigger gap to ignore. Yes, he's gone over to the other side a few times, but seems to know now (after a correction) that his side is where he stays.

One day soon I'll get around to fixing it.

Well this is fun. All the wind we've been having has blown our fence over. I suppose its been along time coming. Pretty sure the wood was rotting away 10 years ago when we bought the place...

I've been tying the fence boards back on woth baling twine over the years since they're nailed in from the neighbors side. But this time the whole post has decided to lean in... theres no amount of baling twine that can tie that back up.

Looks like we have another project on our hands. Guess I didn't already enough half finished projects to enjoy. Glad the dog seems to understand he shouldn't go through cause this one might take a while.

Work on the new rabbitat has been slower than I wanted. The cold, wet weather isn't helping and the fact that it gets dark way too early makes it hard to get much done.

That being said, I took advantage of a break in the rain to get the cement poured for this post. I didn't have alot of time, so even though I didn't have a second set of hands to help, I went for it. Digging the hole was easy enough. Getting the cement mixed and poured by myself was a challenge, but I managed... sinking the bracket in where it needed to go was the hardest part. I ended up with it lined up right, however I failed to get it leveled/plumb before the concrete started stiffening. Oh well, now the bracket will forever be crooked, but at least the post isn't crooked.

The post was a whole 'nother ordeal. Afew days after the concrete dried, I had to wedge this monster post in there. Now the whole point of this was to raise the beam just a bit as it was far too long to carry the load and it was sagging. So I cut my post a tad long with that in mind. Not only was that thing ridiculously heavy but no amount of whacking it would make it go in. So, with the help of a friend, we brought out the car Jack + a second post and jacked that roof up enough to squeeze the monster post in - all the while hoping we wouldn't break anything.

As you can see, it worked... no dramatic incident ensued... and now that beam is beautifully straight... no sagging anymore... the dip on the far edge is another story...

Still so much to do, but it'll get there eventually. Can't wait to move the bunnies in, but I gotta try to enjoy the creative process... and also, think it through to make it absolutely predator proof. There's no rushing greatness!

Wellllll.... these didn't quite turn out how I imagined πŸ˜‚

I strongly believe in using as much of the animal as possible. A friend needed help processing a goat, so off i went. I made sure to bring home all the good bits for the dog. I usually dehydrate my rabbit pelts and he loves rabbit ears, so I thought the goat ears would turn out magnificently....

I didn't consider they would crinkle up like this πŸ™ƒ
Thankfully he didnt care how wierd they looked. He loved them once he figured out how to eat them. Definitely going to snag all the goat ears from now on!

The battle against the scotchbroom continues. We ended up finding a steel cable that didnt snap like the rope we were using before and tying it to the truck/tractor to pull them out easier. It works, but it's slow going. Tying and untying each one individually takes the longest. And of course, the blackberry intertwined makes it even more tricky.

We managed to get a pretty big bunch out. And of course I forgot to take a before picture. It still doesn’t look like we made much of a dent... even after 2+ hours of work. There's a ton more to go... practically a forest's worth... not exaggerating at least a few acres.

Any other good ideas to get this stuff out faster? I'm pretty sure I'll be 1000 years old before we get it all β˜ οΈπŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«πŸ™„

For those that don't know, I'm a huge blueberry lover. We planted a bunch of blueberries last winter/spring, but sadly the deer really did some damage.

We still got a tiny crop, but now that they're dormant and its been really wet, I figured its a good time to get out there and w**d them. Also got some wonderful rabbit p**p and bedding to mulch them with. Underneath it all, I added the paper bags I save from the bunny pellets in an attempt to help keep the w**ds down. Plus the earthworms love the bags and the bunny p**p so its a win win.

Between getting deer gates put up and keeping the w**ds down, I hope we'll have a good crop this coming year. Got 5 more to do next time its not raining.

With all the rain, progress is fairly slow going. But little by little things are coming together.

Got most of the metal paneling on the back wall done. Starting on the sides because its something I can kind of do out of the rain. But gotta pour another concrete post so hoping for some dry weather soon. Otherwise I'll probably resort to using tarps to give me a little more cover till it sets.

As I'm out in my current rabbitat set up, all the rain is reminding me why I really wanted to get this done before the rain came this fall.... oh well, it sure will be nice to be able to feed them without getting soaked someday.

Fingers crossed for a few dry days so I can make some headway! πŸ€žπŸ€žπŸ‡πŸ‡πŸ›–

Wish this photo came out as pretty as it looked in real life. Alas, my phone camera has its limits. It's still nice enough to share though.

With this atmospheric river coming through, its been so wet and cloudy. I love seeing the moon peeking out trying to make its appearance before more rain comes.

Ok, so it doesn't look like much yet, but this will be the new rabbitat's first line of defense against larger predators. I know, I know, it probably wouldn't withstand a bear... but hopefully it'll make it too much of a bother for them to want to go further.

The concept behind this is to have a safe enclosure that grows yummy things (for bunnies) that I can let them into while supervised. It would provide shade in the summer once the grape vines grow up onto it. But it'll also provide a buffer between the buns and the "outside" world.

The last picture is what the design is based off of. My dad really liked the way our deck looked when we redid it a few years back so I figured I'd build it like that so he could see something pretty when he looks out of his window.

I got the concrete for the first 3 posts poured and the posts set. Now just gotta get the cattle panels installed and I can start working my way around to the next wall... got to figure out how to build a door that's not going to create a weak point in the whole thing.

Lots to do, no time to do it. Story of my life πŸ™ƒ
