We currently owe $4,800 in total for our Zoetis and veterinary bills. We commit ourselves to these animals because they depend on us, but we rely on your support to cover these costs. We do not receive government funding, and the one grant we do receive barely covers a month's worth of our annual expenses. This is why we frequently ask for help, and I understand that it can become tiresome. Trust me, we are more aware of this than anyone else, as we are responsible for finding the funds to pay the bills, which is no easy task.
I worry every single day, and this burden is not mine alone; every rescue organization shares this struggle. Each rescue faces the challenge of not having enough fosters and volunteers. Yet, we continue to take in animals, even though we often have no idea how we will cover their expenses or where they will stay. We do this in good faith, believing in your support, but the last few years have been particularly difficult, leading many rescues to close their doors permanently.
Over the last two years, we have fought to keep our organization open, but we are losing this battle. Most of our animals come from Grenada, but we help so many from neighboring communities as well. I have pushed myself harder than I should have, and it has taken a tremendous toll on me and our team members in every aspect of our lives. I have done everything I can; when funds run out, I pay the bills out of my own pocket—$2,500 here, $1,500 there. I can’t continue this way, and to be honest, I shouldn’t have to, so I am making one final plea. There is no personal gain involved; the ones who stand to benefit are the animals who are suffering and dying because humans are failing them. If you are okay with that, by all means, keep scrolling.
The veterinary and Zoetis bills represent only a fraction of our overall expenses. Our animals require food, toys, puppy pads, crates, bedding, treats, and more. Meeting these essential needs is not optional; they must be fulfilled regardless of donations. When community support is lacking, the burden falls solely on us, which is why we are confronting the potential of permanently closing our doors. If each person reading this post contributed just $5 or $10, it would make a significant difference.
