🐾❤️ Understanding Hemangiosarcoma in Dogs ❤️🐾
Some of the hardest moments we face as pet parents are the ones we never saw coming.
Hemangiosarcoma is an aggressive cancer that develops from the cell lining blood vessels. In dogs, it most commonly affects the spleen, heart, and liver. Because these tumors can grow silently and may rupture without warning, some dogs may seem perfectly fine one day and suddenly become very sick the next.
Signs can include sudden weakness, collapse, pale gums, a swollen abdomen, difficulty breathing, or extreme lethargy. In some cases, these symptoms are caused by internal bleeding and require immediate veterinary attention.
While hemangiosarcoma can be devastating, knowing the signs can help us recognize when something isn’t right. Regular veterinary visits and paying attention to even subtle changes in your pet’s behavior, appetite, energy, or appearance can make a difference.
Most importantly, remember that our pets can’t tell us when something hurts. You know your pet better than anyone. If something feels different or your heart tells you that they’re not acting like themselves, it’s always okay to reach out to your veterinary team.
