The Humane Society of Greenwood is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit animal welfare agency comprised of staff and volunteers. The HSOG is not funded by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), ASPCA, or any other national animal welfare agency. The HSOG is supported by donations and funding from Greenwood County to manage the Greenwood County Animal Shelter. Under contract with Greenwood County, the

Humane Society of Greenwood’s animal care professionals operate the Greenwood County Animal Shelter, the safety net for any lost, abandoned, or relinquished companion animal in Greenwood County. HSOG staff promote adoptions of shelter animals at the Adoption Center and at off-site adoption events, as well as work strategically with out-of-area rescue groups who adopt animals from the Shelter and re-home in areas outside Greenwood. We are transport partners with Spartanburg’s Animal Allies Low-Cost Spay/Neuter clinic. is a pick-up point for transport from Animal Allies so area pet owners can take advantage of the low-cost services. Preventing unwanted litters is the most effective way of reducing euthanasia at the animal shelter. We coordinate and participate in community outreach through: 1) presentations to schools and civic organizations, 2) media (HSOG website, Facebook, local news outlets, radio), and 3) fund raising events.

This week's pets of the week are 🐾Koda and Wally!🐾

🐾 Meet Koda! 🐾
Koda is 7 years old and such a sweet, friendly boy. He’s great with kids, other dogs, and everyone he meets. He walks wonderfully on a leash and absolutely loves going out for his walks. Koda is truly just a gentle, easygoing companion ready to be by your side.

🐾 Meet Wally! 🐾
Wally is a big, playful lovebug! He’s pretty laid-back but loves to knock a toy around and have some fun. Wally is good with other cats and was an indoor/outdoor cat in his previous home, so he would most likely enjoy that lifestyle again. His brother is Chubbs, and while they aren’t a bonded pair, they are good friends and would make a great pair for anyone looking for double trouble in the best way!

Join us for yoga with Gentle Roots Yoga
🐶 We’re excited to offer Puppy & Kitten Yoga, a one-hour gentle yoga class where adoptable animals make special appearances throughout practice. These classes are designed to be lighthearted, grounding, and community-focused—perfect for animal lovers and yoga practitioners of all levels.

🧘‍♀️ 60-minute gentle yoga class
🐾 Featuring adoptable puppies, dogs, kittens, or cats
💛 $12 per class (proceeds benefit HSOG)
👥 Space is limited to 20 participants per class

What an awesome day out yesterday!

A huge thanks to our great friends at Ashley Square for letting us be a part of their Summer Carnival Event. We all had such a blast and the pups got some much needed attention!

And then we stopped by to visit some awesome kids at First Presbyterian Church of Greenwood! The kids worked super hard all week collecting donations for the animals here at HSOG and we are so grateful for their help!

A big thank you to our volunteers who came out and helped us with the pups, as well. We always appreciate you and always have a great time.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗠𝗲?

My name is Malcolm and I am Pet of the Week this week. This is super important for me. Why? Because I’m only 6 months old but I’ve been here at the shelter for 3 whole months.

I’m not sure why.

I know how to sit. I learn fast. I love treats. I love everyone I meet from children to other animals to everyone who gives me attention.

I just can’t figure out why I’m still here. The awesome people I see every day at the shelter tell me I’m so perfect. They give me kisses and belly rubs but then they have to leave at the end of the day.

I wish I could go with them.

I’ve been to every event lately. I’ve seen so many people. I see my friends get adopted. But…

I’m still here.

I promise I’ll love you. I promise I’ll be your best friend. I promise I'll stay by your side forever.
