What a busy weekend we had. 9 chocolate babies(6 boys and 3 girls) were born 10/25/25. While not our litter we will be helping whelp and raise this bunch. They belong to dear friends of ours Top Game Retrievers. The sire is Gunner, a puppy we produced from the Zara and Bo Whoop litter a few years ago. Lots of desire, speed, and talent. The dam is Bama, who has a stellar pedigree including top notch field trial, hunt test, and pointing chocolate lines. To say we are eager to see what this pairing makes would be an understatement with the pedigree and background of the parents. Stay tuned and keep an eye out for updates.

Spent the weekend at Eastern Carolina HRC with friends, family, overall good company. It’s always a pleasure to run there. Saw some things we need to work on and also saw some things work out well that we had been training on. Also questions that we will have answers to as we continue to train and practice. A huge shoutout to everyone that helped put the test on from volunteers to land owners and people supporting the dog game. At the end of the day that’s what it’s truly about the dogs.

This may be coming a bit late but with all going on we have finally found some time. This past weekend we attended Eastern Carolina’s HRC 25th annual hunt test. We got to witness some great dog work, fellowship with friends both old and new. Met some new people just getting started into the hunt test game and offered some advice and pointers the biggest being enjoy yourself, your dog(s), and the journey. Take every event pass or fail and learn from it, stay upbeat, stay positive. A huge shoutout goes to Howell Woods and Mr. Chris Adams for allowing the club to host the event on the respective properties. Thank you to all the judges, club members, non members, and participants for making the event a special one. I have to brag on the bird techs especially. Those kids hustled all weekend, tried extremely hard to do the right thing. On Sunday when the storm come through and it was raining not a single one of them complained, or opted out. That was truly impressive. Along the way, we went 3/4 in finished with Nike getting a pass, and Scarlett obtaining her HRCH title. More to come later.

This past weekend was spent at Shadow Creek Farms who was gracious enough to let Contentnea Creek HRC use their property to put on the spring 25 hunt test. While we did not run dogs in contention, Scarlett and Nike shared the duties for test dog at the finished level. We were pleased with their work. What was gratifying was speaking with other handlers, looking at the tests brainstorming getting different point of views, helping out where the club needed to ensure the test ran as smooth and efficient as possible. A huge thank you goes out to everyone from the judges, bird techs, handlers, club members, and property owners for donating your time to allow others to enjoy time with and compete with their dogs. We are looking forward to and planning for the Fall test. As for the pictures below… yellow arcs are the marks, yellow lines direct path to where the birds landed, and the red line was the blind each dog was expected to run.
