Give a warm welcome to Nikia, a beautiful girl who is ready for a fresh start and a loving forever home! Nikia came to us as an owner surrender through absolutely no fault of her own. Her previous owner fell on hard times and made the difficult decision to surrender her because he felt he could no longer give Nikia the life she deserved. We have been told that Nikia is a 6-year-old female Husky mix. According to her previous owner, Nikia is good with kids and other dogs and is also housebroken and crate trained. Nikia is not a fan of cats, so a cat-free home would be best for her. Nikia has already shown us what a smart girl she is! She knows the command sit and absolutely loves treats, which should come in handy as she continues learning! She doesn’t seem to mind the other dogs here at the shelter and is currently working on her leash manners, making great progress every day. Nikia is ready to leave shelter life behind and find a family to call her own. Nikia did great for her exam where she weighs in at 53 lbs. where she was given Bordatella, parvo/lepto/distemper vaccines, dewormed, microchipped and is heartworm negative. Our adoptions are $100 cash/local check only. Our visiting hours are Monday- Friday 8am- 11:45am and 1pm- 4pm. We are located at 5066 County Home Rd. Greenville OH. 45331. The Darke County Animal Shelter would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of Matt Hiestand as they continue to honor and remember his life.

For the past four years, the Hiestand family has held a memorial golf outing at the Union City Country Club in Matt’s honor, raising funds to support local causes and give back to the community. For the second year, the family graciously chose the Darke County Animal Shelter as the recipient of their generous donation—a fitting tribute to Matt and his love for animals.

We were honored to welcome Matt’s parents, Cy and Debbie Hiestand, along with his daughter, Mattie Hiestand, to the shelter. On behalf of this year’s memorial golf outing, they presented Officer Johnson with a generous donation of $3,800.

We are incredibly grateful to the Hiestand family and to everyone who participated, donated, and helped make the golf outing a success. Their generosity will make a meaningful difference in the lives of the dogs in our care while helping carry on Matt’s legacy of compassion and love for animals.

To the Hiestand family, thank you for choosing to honor Matt’s memory in such a meaningful way. Your kindness and continued support mean more to us—and to the animals we serve—than words can express.

Friday August 21 through Saturday August 29 you can stop at the fair and see our display! We are located just down from the fine arts building between the pink and red midway. There is plenty of freebies all you have to do is stop and say hello.

The open house is in full swing. We have adopted 3 dogs already and had several visitors. Stop out get a free hotdogs and pup cup. Sign up for the door prizes. Get a free bag of dog food. Or have your dog microchipped for $30. We are here until 2pm today.
