This is my best friend Fred.
We've shared a lot. Walks at the park, in the woods, at the lake. We've shared fleas, lazy days in the sun. French fries and car rides, and lots more. A zillion kids have waved us down to pet the big doggie. For almost 15 years he's slept on the floor by my bed, for the past 2weeks, I've slept on the floor next to his bed.
I'm not much for praying, but I'm praying now.
Please keep my friend alive for a while longer. And if he must go, let it be painless.
Amen. If you know Fred, pray for him too.
