🐾 Tip Tuesday 🐾

Did you know that keeping your pet mentally enriched is just as important as physical exercise? 🧠💙
Puzzle toys, sniff walks, training sessions, and even simple games of hide-and-seek can help reduce boredom, relieve anxiety, and improve overall behavior in dogs. Mental stimulation helps keep pets happy, confident, and engaged — especially during rainy days or hot summer weather when outdoor activity may be limited.
Other activities like lick mats and frozen treats can also provide mental stimulation and can decrease boredom and distructive behavior.

A mentally stimulated pet is often a healthier and happier pet! 🐶🐱
What’s your pet’s favorite enrichment activity? Tell us in the comments! ⬇️

🐾 Meet the Staff Monday 🐾

Meet Charlie Rose, one of our wonderful Veterinary Assistants here at the hospital! Charlie Rose has been with us for a year and loves getting to see familiar clients and patients while helping pets feel their very best. She especially enjoys running bloodwork, providing patient care, and getting to spend time with all of the adorable puppies and kittens that come through our doors.

When asked about her favorite type of animal, her answer was simple — she loves every creature! Outside of work, Charlie Rose enjoys playing video games, painting, and drawing. While she’s still figuring out exactly where her future career goals may take her, she says becoming a streamer might be in the cards someday. 😊

Charlie Rose is also a proud pet parent to several beloved companions. Gia, her “soul dog,” grew up alongside her, and the two love going on walks, boating adventures, and cuddling together. Luke, her wild child, loves jumping in the water and playing with his sister, while her cats Louie and Spook keep things cozy at home with plenty of naps and cuddles.

We’re so grateful to have Charlie Rose as part of our team — be sure to say hello next time you see her around the hospital! 💙🐾

🐾 Pro Tip Thursday 🐾

Summer cookouts and gatherings can be fun for the whole family — but not every BBQ favorite is safe for pets!

Foods to avoid sharing with your furry friends:
🚫 Corn cobs
🚫 Cooked bones
🚫 Grapes & raisins
🚫 Onions & garlic
🚫 Chocolate desserts
🚫 Alcoholic beverages

Even small amounts of certain foods can cause serious illness or dangerous blockages.

If you want to include your pet in the fun, stick to veterinarian-approved treats and make sure they always have access to shade and fresh water. ☀️🐶

When in doubt, it’s always safest to ask before sharing table scraps!

🐾 Wellness Wednesday 🐾

Did you know many pets are experts at hiding pain and illness?

Routine wellness exams help veterinarians catch potential health concerns early — often before noticeable symptoms appear at home. From dental disease and arthritis to heart conditions and diabetes, early detection can make a huge difference in your pet’s comfort, health, and quality of life.

✔️ Annual exams for adult pets
✔️ Yearly Early Detection Bloodwork
✔️ Preventive care = healthier, happier lives

Your pet may not be able to tell you when something feels wrong, but regular wellness visits help us advocate for them every step of the way. ❤️🐶🐱

☀️ Summer Safety Tip Tuesday

Topic: Hot pavement & paw protection
Caption idea:

🐾 Tip Tuesday: Protect Those Paws! ☀️

As temperatures rise, sidewalks and asphalt can become dangerously hot for pets’ paw pads. A good rule of thumb: if it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws.

✔️ Walk during cooler morning or evening hours
✔️ Stick to grass or shaded areas when possible
✔️ Watch for limping or licking paws after walks
✔️ Don’t forget plenty of fresh water!

Summer fun is always better when our pets stay safe and comfortable. 🐶🐾

🐾 Meet the staff Monday 🐾
Meet Tara, one of our amazing kennel staff members! 🐾 ❤️
Tara has been part of the AHPC family for almost 2 years and loves being around animals every day and seeing all the different breeds that come through our doors.
Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, along with her two yellow labs, Amber and Noel, and her sister’s three-legged Pomeranian, Luna.
Tara loves beach trips, tent camping, hiking in the mountains, painting and crafts, photography, reading, and walking — and hopes to travel to Europe someday, especially Scotland! ☀️ 🏔️

Her favorite animals are Labrador Retrievers and horses, and one fun fact about her is that she comes from a family of 6 siblings.
At the hospital, her favorite thing to do is help restrain and comfort animals during blood draws, vaccines, and nail trims. 💙
We are so grateful to have Tara as a part of our team!

🐾 Fun Fact Friday! 🧠🐶🐱 — Pet Weight & Wellness Edition

Did you know that more than half of pets in the U.S. are considered overweight or obese? While it may seem harmless (or even “cute”), extra weight can have a big impact on a pet’s overall health and quality of life.

⚖️ Why weight matters

Even a few extra pounds can lead to:
🐾 Joint pain & arthritis – extra pressure on hips, knees, and elbows can make movement uncomfortable
🐾 Heart and respiratory strain – overweight pets often tire more easily and may struggle with exercise or heat
🐾 Diabetes risk – excess body fat can affect insulin regulation, especially in cats
🐾 Shortened lifespan – studies show lean pets often live significantly longer than overweight pets
🐾 Lower energy & reduced mobility – less play, less exercise, and a cycle that’s hard to break

🐕 Tips for healthy weight loss:

🥣 Measure meals (don’t eyeball it!)
🦴 Cut back on treats—not love
🚶 Increase activity gradually

👩‍⚕️ Rule out medical causes
Conditions like thyroid issues or pain can contribute to weight gain or difficulty losing weight.

💙 The goal isn’t just a smaller number on the scale—it’s a happier, more comfortable, more active pet who can enjoy life to the fullest.
