BROTHERS KEEPER RANCH INC/ABBY SPEIDEL ARE THE ONES CURRENTLY TRYING TO HOLD THIS HORSE FROM ME.
I guess it’s time to make a PSA for those who have ever bought a horse from us, as well as a plea for help for a situation that is ongoing…
We always, no matter what, and with zero judgment, welcome horses back that have been sold. Horses can be a big financial commitment and require time, money, and proper management. A Quarter Horse has different needs from a Thoroughbred, which has different needs from a Percheron. Just like a diabetic has different needs than a person allergic to peanuts, who has different needs than a person with a gluten intolerance. Thoroughbreds are known to need high-quality forage (which should be given anyhow), a grain that meets their needs (we suggest Tribute Synergize), and a good turnout schedule.
Life happens, and sometimes these needs can’t be met. Totally understandable!
But don’t be so prideful that you can’t seek help from us.
A real-life example that’s still ongoing…
I saw this first picture scrolling through my timeline. This is Winyah Bay, a mare I sold on 7/11/25 to someone local. It’s obvious her condition is quite poor. I offered the owner a monetary amount that was more than what the horse is worth, with no judgment but quite a bit of disappointment. The right thing to do for the horse is to allow it to go to a professional who understands what this horse needs to thrive. Well, instead, I chatted with the “trainer” (a kid barely out of high school) who told me she’s going to talk to the owner. This leads to nowhere. The trainer eventually excuses herself from the conversation, even though she rode this horse all last year- and admitted the horse’s condition was poor then. This trainer did nothing about it. The owner has since ceased contact with me, trying to delete messages he previously sent me (which I did save prior to him deleting these messages).
I am now fighting for this emaciated, walking skeleton of a horse. All I want is to get this horse healthy and let it have a quality of life that’s acceptable for a living domesticated horse.
Please, don’t be like these people. I am always happy to be a resource. Day or night, I’m happy to answer questions. Many of those who have bought from me can attest to this.
I do right by the horses that come through AWV. I beg of you, the reader, to please, please, please do right by these amazing animals that make our wildest dreams come true.
Winyah Bay is located currently at Brothers Keeper Ranch in Marion, IN. Those caring for her are Abby Speidel, Shannon Niman, and Morgan Jarvis. We pray that these individuals come to their senses and do the right thing. We are DESPERATELY trying to bring her home. If you, or anyone you know, can help in some way, we urge you to comment or send us a message.
*I have further edited with date stamps to provide a clear picture of this horse’s progression of neglect*
