Cat grooming looks so much different than dog grooming, and to the untrained eye you might see me lay at cat lateral (on its side) or sit and cross my legs over their back legs & think that’s unnecessary or improper. These are proper restraints for a cat and keeps them calm & safe.
Cat skin isn’t as thick as dogs, literally, and they tend to have much looser skin. If you don’t stretch the skin well enough you run the risk of catching the skin between blade teeth and causing a cut; which in cats a small cut rips like paper & turns into a much bigger cut quickly.
But these restraints help get in those sketchy areas (hello armpits and groin) with a much lower risk of catching the skin.
This was a great groom to showcase some of those restraints.

A great example of why every cat groom is different!

Both of these cats came in yesterday needing coat maintenance, but their final haircuts were vastly different and the reasoning is: their behavior and mental wellbeing.

The first kitty: While he wasn’t severely matted, he did have some mild matting that would have required extensive brushing to preserve more coat.
Unfortunately, When I tried to brush out the matting he was very clearly communicating he wasn’t comfortable and very unhappy with that process.
But shaving him- no complaints.
So lion shave for the win.

The second kitty was able to receive a teddy bear trim because both his coat condition and his temperament allowed for more coat preservation. He tolerated the grooming process well, which made it possible to save more fur and achieve that fluffy look.

Many people see photos online and request a specific style, but the reality is that a cat’s behavior plays just as important a role as their coat condition.
‼️The safest, least stressful groom for the cat will always come first‼️
Sometimes that means we can leave more fluff, and sometimes it means a shorter trim is the best option.

Every cat is an individual, and every grooming plan is tailored to what is safest and most comfortable for each individual cat.

We love when we think we’ll need to shave due to matting and find NOPE, just some sanitary knots. Full coat for the win!

Happy belated (by 1 day) bday to one of my first clients BAILEY
Crazy to think when we started she needed medication & muzzles & sometimes she looked like she lost a fight with a lawn mower😅😅

Now with her there’s no muzzles, no medication & no haircut mutilation

Just happy Bailey‼️‼️
