Hancock County Humane Society We are a no-kill, non-profit animal shelter run entirely by volunteers, funded entirely on donations.

The Hancock County Humane Society is a no-kill*, non-profit animal shelter located in Greenfield, Indiana. (We are not affiliated with, nor do we receive financial support from, the Humane Society of the United States.) We are currently open by appointment only, to meet available pets for adoption. This shelter has been in existence since 1977 and has always been staffed entirely by volunteers and

funded entirely on donations from the local community (we do not receive public or government funding). We are a registered 501(c)3 organization listed on GuideStar. It is our goal to find permanent safe and loving homes for the pets in our care. We average 30-40 cats in our shelter and with foster volunteers. Our average intake of cats in a year, and adoptions of pets, is approximately 200. With the recent addition of a medical isolation suite to our facility, our volunteers in cooperation with local veterinarians are able to provide the daily care necessary to help more sick animals become healthy, adoptable pets. We work with other local shelters and rescue many cats from facilities who are sometimes forced to euthanize animals due to illness or space limitations. *No-kill meaning healthy pets with good temperaments are kept until adopted no matter how many years it may take. We diligently attempt to treat unhealthy pets whenever possible.

This morning before our volunteers arrived at 9 am, someone abandoned two cat carriers outside our building. Both carriers had broken doors and been pushed against our building. Unfortunately, one of the carriers was empty when we found it. We don't know how many cats may have been in the carrier or what they look like. The other contained two extreme frighten cats.
If anyone has any information or recognizes these carriers, please contact us. We are desperately seeking any information about these cats.

Sylvie is a beautiful calico with big green eyes who has been waiting patiently for someone to love her again. She lost her home when her owner passed away and found herself at our shelter. She is a loving kitty who just needs a second chance. Sylvie loves to nap in a cat tree preferably one with a window view. She does't care much for canned food but does LOVE catnip and some treats. She has been waiting over a year for a new home. Please help us fine this sweet girl a furever home.
