🐩August is Itchy Pet Awareness Month!

🦟Most commonly, the source of your pets itching this time of year is related to fleas or ticks living on your pet or in their environment. This can easily be calmed with regularly prescription flea and tick preventatives. Call, text, or schedule an appointment on PetDesk to get your pet up to date on an exam this month!

🍳Other causes of an itchy pet may be food or environmental allergies. This may require further testing and investigation to get down to the source of your pets itchiness!

If your pet is scratching a little more than usual, contact us and we would be happy to see them!

🌽Happy sweet corn season!

We know dogs love the smell and taste of fresh corn. However, corn cobs can be extremely dangerous if swallowed. Unlike the kernels, corn cobs do not digest and can become lodged in the gastrointestinal tract, causing a life-threatening blockage that often requires emergency surgery.

Keep these tips in mind:
🌽 Throw corn cobs away immediately in a secure trash can.
🌽 Don’t offer corn cobs for your pets to chew on or play with.
🌽 Remind guests at cookouts to keep their plates out of your pet’s reach.

If your dog has eaten a corn cob, don’t wait for symptoms to appear, call us right away! Signs of an intestinal blockage may include vomiting, loss of appetite, lethargy, abdominal pain, or difficulty passing stool.

A little extra caution during summer cookouts can help keep your furry family members safe. ❤️🐾
