You know what IVDD is, now letās talk about the signs.
Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD) can progress quickly, and sometimes the early signs are easy to miss. But catching those small changes early can make a life-changing difference for your dog.
You might first notice something subtle like your dog hesitates before jumping on the couch, avoids the stairs, or just seems a little stiff or uncomfortable. Some dogs may tremble, become less active, or even cry out when being picked up.
As the condition progresses, the signs can become more serious. You could see unsteady or wobbly walking, dragging of the back legs, or trouble with coordination. In more severe cases, dogs may lose control of their bladder or bowels completely and not know it.
If you notice anything that feels āoff,ā trust your instincts and contact your veterinarian right away. The first 24 hours are critical, and early treatment can significantly improve outcomes.
At Teeny We**ie Dog Care, we keep a close eye on these signs, especially in long-bodied pups who are more at risk.
