Everyone meet this adorable trio!

🦴 Bodie: a high energy 1 year old Golden Retriever with so much love to give. He loves to be the center of attention, naturally.

🦴 Molly: a timid 6 year old Fox Terrier loves to nap on fuzzy blankets and will absolutely p*e a little when you greet her.

🦴 Murphy: a cat who enjoys receiving attention on their own time and giving love bites once trusted. Known to nibble book edges if given the opportunity.

Animals have a special place in Chelsea Fargo’s heart. She became a dog groomer in 2011 and even spent some time working as an animal control officer. The eastsider cares for four dogs, three cats and a bird of her own.

About two years ago, Fargo noticed an increase in social media posts from Indianapolis residents looking for pet food assistance. To help meet the need, she installed a free pet food pantry outside her home.

Now, Fargo and fellow eastside groomer Bethany English have grown that first box into a nonprofit called Eastside Pawject, with six food boxes located on the east side and one on the west side. Each week, they distribute about 300 pounds of pet food through the boxes. The nonprofit also offers $5 microchips for pets.

“Making that affordable and accessible is hopefully getting more pets home if they get lost,” Bailey said. “That’s one of our big things, just keeping pets home and safe.”

🎆 Fireworks may be fun for us, but they can be terrifying for our pets.

Every year after the Fourth of July, shelters across the country see a huge increase in lost pets. The loud noises and bright flashes can cause even the calmest animals to panic and run.

Here are a few ways to help keep your pets safe:
🐾 Keep pets indoors before fireworks begin.
🐾 Make sure they are wearing a collar with current ID tags.
🐾 Check that your pet's microchip information is up to date.
🐾 Create a quiet, secure space inside your home with their favorite bed, toys, or treats.
🐾 Close windows, curtains, and blinds, and turn on a TV or fan to help muffle the noise.
🐾 Never take your pet to a fireworks show.

If your pet does go missing:
📍 Search your neighborhood immediately.
📍 Post on local lost-and-found pet pages.
📍 Contact Indianapolis Animal Care Services and file a lost pet report.
