🦜 What Parrot Rescues Aren’t: Part 2

We aren’t a bunch of mean girls having a popularity contest. We don’t wear pink on Wednesdays, and this certainly isn’t Mean Girls: Rescue Edition. 😂

Rescue is not a competition to see who can take in the most surrenders, save the most birds, or get the most recognition. We aren’t here to compete with one another, tear each other down, or make another rescue look bad to make ourselves look better.

We are a team.

We may have different approaches, different resources, different experiences, and different opinions, but at the end of the day, our mission is the same: to help the parrots who need us.

There are more than enough birds needing rescue, and no single rescue can do it all. We need each other. We should be sharing resources, offering support, working together, and celebrating each other’s successes instead of treating one another like competition.

The birds don’t care whose rescue name is on the paperwork. They don’t care who gets the credit. They just need someone willing to show up for them.

Let’s stop competing and start collaborating. There is room for all of us, and the birds benefit when we work together.

Rescue isn’t a popularity contest. It’s a responsibility, a commitment, and a shared mission. ❤️🦜

🦜 WHAT PARROT RESCUES AREN’T: Part 1

Parrot rescues aren’t places that pick and choose which parrots are worthy of being helped. We don’t cherry-pick intakes based on size, species, or personal favorites. We don’t decide that we’ll take the macaws but pass over the smaller parrots who are just as deserving of rescue because they aren’t our preferred species.

As rescuers, we made a choice to be here for ALL parrots, of all shapes, sizes, and species. Not just the ones we love most, the ones that are easiest to place, or the ones that make the biggest impression.

That doesn’t mean we will never reach capacity. It doesn’t mean we can always take a bird immediately. Sometimes we may need you to wait a week or two while we make room and work out the logistics.

But we will work to find a solution. We will figure it out. Because that’s what rescue is about.

Rescue isn’t about choosing the birds we want. It’s about being there for the birds who need us.

No bird should be less deserving of help simply because of its size or species. 🦜❤️

This is absolutely why anyone considering should ask questions, take a tour, look around at the other birds, etc. The first place/person you consider is not always the correct choice for your bird.

They’re each looking for a home where they can settle in, build trust, and become part of your everyday life. Cockatiels may come in a small package, but their need for attention, enrichment, and proper care takes up some space.

Piper and Milo can be adopted separately. They each have their own application for love. No double date required.

Meet Birdie, a yellow-naped Amazon who isn’t an old man. He has simply decided to retire from everyone’s nonsense ahead of schedule.

From his preferred perch, Birdie supervises the youngsters and whippersnappers with the quiet disapproval of someone who has asked you three times to get off his lawn.

No flapping. No yelling. No carrying on.

Nobody in this establishment has any decorum, and he intends to address it at the next homeowners association meeting.

He doesn’t need to participate. He has a perch and a clear view of the questionable decisions being made around him. That’s a full afternoon.

Birdie is looking for a home that lets him set the pace. And choose the perch. Please understand that these are separate negotiations, and neither will be rushed.

He needs someone patient who will give him time to settle in, learn what makes him comfortable, and build trust without turning every interaction into a mandatory team-building exercise.

You may be ready to become best friends on day one. Birdie will need to review your conduct over several meetings before considering that promotion.

There’s something endearing about a bird who would rather observe the chaos than contribute to it. He’s looking for companionship with someone who respects that being together doesn’t have to mean doing something together every minute.

If your idea of a good afternoon is quietly sharing space while silently judging the neighborhood, you two may have a future.

Birdie is available for adoption through Totally Flocked Avian Rescue in Molino, Florida. Adopters must be 18 or older and within approximately 350 miles of Pensacola. We do not ship birds.
