Are you prepared for Friday night? 🎆 Because Renly is!
While we see a fun display of colors and crackles, our pets may not think it's as entertaining. Their hearing is much better than ours, so if we think the sounds are loud, it's really booming for them. This matched with the unpredictability of the noise can make it a very scary time for them.
➡ Here are some ways that you can help your pet through the festivities:
1. Tell people around you that you will be lighting fireworks. If you do not regularly have a 4th of July party ending in fireworks, please let your neighbors know so they can prepare.
2. Make a space for them in a room without windows. Solid walls buffer the sounds much better, and they will not have to see all of the flashing lights.
3. Play background noise for them. Whether it's a TV or a radio, having something constantly playing makes the booming less jarring to them. It's like preparing their ears for extra noise.
4. Use a ThunderShirt. Rachel is holding Renly, a tiny Yorkie who has just won an XXS ThunderShirt from our contest. These shirts act like a hug, and provide a calming effect to pets under stress.
5. Tire them out during the day. If you're able to tire your pet out through play or a long walk, they can be much more mellow. Though your dog may still be nervous, this may prevent them from causing damage to your house or injuring themselves.
How have you prepared for the fireworks?
