About an inch of snow fell overnight, but strong winds sustained at 45 to 50 mph are causing blowing and drifting snow that is quickly recovering road surfaces. High winds are also contributing to reduced visibility at times, and additional strong gusts anticipated through the afternoon have resulted in downed trees in some areas. An additional 2 to 3 inches of snow is expected throughout the day.
KCRC crews are actively responding and continuing storm operations, including responding to downed tree reports. Overnight and early morning crews focused on state roads and are moving into county primary roads, with progress into the local road system as the morning continues.
Morning commuters are encouraged to use caution. Snow may quickly cover treated roads, visibility can change rapidly, and conditions may vary from one roadway to the next. Motorists should also watch for debris in the roadway, particularly on tree-lined, low-volume local roads where minimal overnight traffic occurred.
