An Update from Indra’s Net Maine C***s

I’m stepping back from breeding right now.

I don’t have the emotional space—the heart space—to do what I’ve always done: raise kittens with care, vet potential homes with discernment, and send each baby off with confidence and trust.

The truth is, I’ve lost some of that trust—in myself, and in people.

Earlier this year, one of my beloved cats—my Regional Winner and the 5th Best Maine C**n internationally—was killed. Not lost. Not passed peacefully. Killed. By someone I once trusted to care for him.

If you’ve ever shown a cat to a national ranking, you understand: it’s more than titles. It’s long hours, deep partnership, a wordless bond forged through travel, training, and shared purpose. He gave me everything. He gave me his trust. And that trust was betrayed. And I felt responsible.

I’ve questioned everything since. My judgment. My ability to read people. My place in this community.

But I’ve also come to this:
Some people hide their darkness well. Evil wears polite faces. And even the best of us can be fooled. If an entire country can be taken in by a con man, I’m giving myself grace for what I didn’t see in time.

I’ve hired a private investigator and will pursue justice—for him, and for the others who were affected. Quietly. Relentlessly.

In the meantime, I will not be placing kittens. The cats who are here will stay here. My website is offline. If you’re looking for a kitten, I’ll gladly refer you to ethical, experienced breeders I trust.

That said—I’m not disappearing.

I’ll continue to celebrate our Indra’s Net wins, show my cats, and meet many of you in the show hall. I remain active in CFA, Region 2, and my cat club.

And for now, I’m focusing on my artwork, my cats, and building a viable way forward again.

Thank you for understanding. And thank you to those who’ve walked beside me through this. You are appreciated more than I can say. ❤️❤️❤️

True North update! 🧭🐾

She’s officially six weeks old, clocking in at nearly 2 pounds of unstoppable floof, sass, and fat baby belly. She’s eating like a champ, still nursing like royalty, and—brace yourselves—using the litter box like a civilized monarch. 👑

This week’s photo? She’s posed on her tiny throne like she’s expecting a royal portrait and possibly a treaty from the dog.

Born against the odds, now ruling every room she enters—True North continues to be proof that magic survives, and sometimes, it purrs.

Meet True North—the one, the only, the utterly majestic kitten who survived the odds and now rules the rainbow patch under my bookshelf like it’s her personal queendom. 👑

After the heartbreak of Chara’s lost litter, I’m happy to say that mama is now fully healed—and so is this tiny miracle. True North is healthy, feisty, and clearly destined for dramatic lighting and stage presence.

Oh, and the twist? We thought she was a boy. She is not.
She is a girl—a very opinionated one. She knew who she was all along. 😹

That rainbow she’s lounging in like it was custom-ordered? Courtesy of a handmade suncatcher I made for my bedroom. (Yes, I make those. Yes, you can get one. Yes, this is the part where I shamelessly nudge you toward getting your own.)

Anyway, She is joy. She is fierce. She is True North. And apparently, she is in charge now.

4 weeks old (yesterday, actually) and this little tyke is scrambling all over the place. He has a nice weight, and a lovely milk belly. He is not as loud and obnoxious as some singletons, which both his mom and I appreciate! It is almost time to introduce solid food.

UPDATE: True North at 3 Weeks

It’s been a season of heartbreak and hard-earned hope here at Indra’s Net, but today, I finally get to share a piece of good news that feels like a deep breath.

Chara’s one surviving kitten is now a little over 3 weeks old—and has officially hit the 1-pound milestone. His name is True North. Partly because he reminds me of my very first Maine C**n, True, and partly because, in the middle of everything, this little one became the compass that helped me steady myself and move forward.

He is not a bottle baby—Chara has stepped up like the queen she is and is doing a phenomenal job as a mother. After all she’s been through, she’s raising him strong, steady, and sweet.

True North is still under observation and not available—but he is thriving. And if all continues to go well, he’ll eventually have a very special home and a beautiful life ahead.

And while this spring brought more grief than I was prepared for, it’s also worth celebrating that we had one of our best show seasons to date: the VERY FIRST female Maine C**n in Region 2, ever, to place in the Top 10 Regionally, Nationally, and Internationally. An incredible honor, and a reminder of why I do this, even when it’s hard.

Thank you for following along, for your kind messages, and for being part of this journey. Here’s to resilience, legacy, and love wrapped in fur.

Well, you haven't heard from me much in the past few months. I missed many posts. Many things have happened. First, my heart was shattered when I found out that the woman who took my buddy and show companion, Red Baron, as a fur-ever friend, killed him, and then blocked me so that I would not know. She claimed to have renamed him 'Fritz', but really replaced him with a couple different red and white Maine C**n Cats sequentially in the space of a few years. If anyone has ever shown a cat, they know that there is a special bond of trust that develops between the show cat and the person showing. And, though we develop strong relationships with our showcats, when it is time for them to retire I find them special homes, with people who will spoil them and treat them like the little gods that they are. I thought I had a perfect person for Red Baron. I gave Red Baron in trust to this woman, after vetting her, and she killed him. I was devasated to learn, not from her, but from someone that she was trying to get another red and white Maine C**n cat from.

And, then Minty, who was pregnant, had open pyometra and we ended up at the ER vet on Mother's Day. Due to Sierra Animal Wellness Center Minty's prognosis is now good, but it has taken several weeks to get her there.

Finally, Chara had a lovely litter of 6 babies right before Minty started having problems. Sadly, Chara developed an Upper Resperatory infection right before she gave birth, and 5 of the 6 kittens did not survive. Here is a picture of our sole survivor.

So, we went from hopeful of two litters being expected, to one sole surviving kitten in the matter of two weeks. It was sad.

As with any breeder, we all go through our ups and downs with breeding. Breeding is not for the faint of heart! I have been very blessed with great cats, wonderful new owners, and incredible good luck, up to this point. Indra's Net Maine C**n Cats has not had a cat with pyo in 25 years until now! So, maybe it was our turn, and I need to focus on the blessings: that Minty will be fine, and after healing from her upper resperatory infection, Chara and her new baby will also be fine.

I could have just not say anything about my absence from my Social Media page, but honesty is the best policy in my opinion.

With all of the normal ups and downs of running a cattery in the any year, ie: some elder cats getting old and passing, to some fabulous end of the year show results, this one thing with Red Baron hit me pretty hard and made me want to quit breeding. I hated people. But, then, hate is not a good use for anger, so I got busy. I owe it to my Red Baron.

If you are a PETA person, or if you have anything cruel to say about this post, this in not the page for you. Feel free to take yourself away now, because I am deeply deeply angry and my momma-bear mode has been activated. Now is not a good time to be messing with me.

In the meantime, enjoy watching our baby grow. He is currently under observation, and won't be available for now.
