Hubby started on the kitchen, worked on the porches while we were waiting for kitchen parts, finished the kitchen, finished the porches, called the inspectors and bada boom bada bing ------------WE'RE IN!!!!!!!! I feel sorta guilty that I didn't post updates, but we've been busy! We're far from 'done' with the house (is one ever 'done' with a house?)....

NOT! I just took the summer off blogging. We definitely did not take the summer off our home building project. Something about long, warm days, hard physical labor, and being stuck on a laptop all day everyday at work makes blogging REALLY unattractive during 'free time'. The dark is creeping in to daytime again, though, so now is a good time to share some highlights of what's been accomplished during the busy season: [ 484 more words ]

I am not exactly attentive or interested in home decor or style, so I brought along Carly to help pick out paint for the interior of the house (Vern picked the colors for the exterior). My goal was to match the colors from the terrain around the house, since we purposely chose the location of the house and the size of the windows (large) to bring the views in. [ 286 more words ]

And then sand it off again! This was the mantra for most of the winter. Bailey and Vern have some SERIOUSLY buff arm muscles now! Here they are saving their lungs from weeks and weeks of dry-wall-mud-sanded-off-dust. The artist at work: They went through ALOT of drywall mud!!! (We now have a lifetime supply of 5 gallon buckets: The final product: (I thought we could leave it this way and start a new home fashion trend, but was voted down). Time to call in the painting crew!!!

For those of you familiar with the children's book, "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie", this part of the project had that same kind of 'when will this end' frustration. We were feeling the pinch of upcoming winter, and knew we needed to have the furnace in to keep us and our materials warm. We also wanted to get the gas line into the ground before the ground froze. It's not very often that Super Hubby needs a hand, so this was an unusual step of the journey. For quite a few weeks, I would come home from work with him waiting for me to help 'haul drywall'. It was fun at first......but got old after so many weeks and sheets. Next it seemed to be transformation on a daily basis. [ 160 more words ]

You can never have too many outlets!
