Indications: Credelio Quattro is indicated for the prevention of heartworm disease and the treatment and control of roundworm, hookworm** and tapeworm infections. greater.
Important Safety Information: Lotilaner, an ingredient in Credelio Quattro, belongs
to the isoxazoline class and has been associated with neurologic adverse reactions
like tremors, ataxia, and seizures even in dogs without a history of seizures. Use with
caution in dogs with a history of seizures or neurologic disorders. Dogs should be
tested for existing heartworm infections before Credelio Quattro administration as it
is not effective against adult D. immitis. The safe use in breeding, pregnant, or
lactating dogs has not been evaluated. The most frequently reported adverse
reactions in clinical trials were vomiting and diarrhea. For complete safety

Our final disease tested for in our IDEXX SNAP 4Dx Plus test is Ehrlichiosis. Our test checks for two strains of these rickettsiae bacterias. They are Ehrlichia canis, and Ehrlichia ewingii. These bacteria are spread by the brown dog tick, and the lone star tick respectively.
Did you know?:
- Ehrlichiosis was named after Dr Paul Ehrlich who first described the bacterias. He also developed the concept of chemotherapy!
- During the Vietnam war military German Shepherd dogs in war zones began dying from an infection that at the time was called "Tropical Canine Pancytopenia". When they studied further, they learned it was actually a rickettsia bacteria called Ehrlichia canis, and that it was actually in multiple countries, not just the war zones as they originally suspected.
- Symptoms range from mild to severe depending on the strain of the organism and immune status of the dog.
- There are different phases of infection where the dog can appear sick, or not appear sick.
- Infections caught and treated early generally have a good prognosis.
- We currently do not have a vaccination for Ehrlichiosis, making consistent, quality preventatives even more important to help prevent infection.
- According to the Companion Animal Parasite Council so far this year in Ohio every 1/100 dogs is testing positive for Ehrlichiosis.

That covers every topic in our IDEXX SNAP 4Dx Plus test. Make sure you are using good preventatives year round, and don't skip the heartworm test at your annual visit. All these things together help keep your pets happy and healthy! 🐶🐱❤️

Today's disease tested for in our IDEXX SNAP 4Dx Plus test is Anaplasmosis.
Did you know?:
-According to the Companion Animal Parasite Council, just in Licking County this year so far, 1/30 dogs tested positive for anaplasmosis. Surrounding counties are as high as 1/8 dogs.
-Currently there is no vaccination for anaplasmosis, making consistent, quality preventatives more important.
- There are two types of Anaplasmosis. They are caused by the bacterias anaplasma phagocytophilum, and anaplasma platys.
- Anaplasma phagocytophilum is more commonly seen in our area according to studies and is an infection of white blood cells. This bacteria is spread by Ixodes ticks (Black-legged ticks or deer ticks).
- Anaplasma platys is not as common here, but is still seen. It is an infection of blood platelets and is spread by Brown dog ticks.
- Co-infection of anaplasmosis and other tick-borne diseases such as lyme and ehrlichiosis is not uncommon and can lead to more severe illness.
-Some dogs may not show outward symptoms, or symptoms may be vague or non-specific. More severe symptoms tend to be rare, but can happen.
- Dogs that become ill and receive treatment generally have a good prognosis.

Today's disease tested for in our IDEXX SNAP 4Dx Plus test is Lyme disease. Pictured here are the different life stages of the tick responsible for the spreading of Lyme. Imagine how hard it is to find these in a hairy dog! These little ticks are called Ixodes ticks, more commonly known as Black-legged or deer ticks. They carry multiple diseases, but today we will focus on Lyme.
Did you know?:
-lyme disease is caused by a spirochete bacteria called Borrelia burgdorferi (named after researcher W***y Burgdorfer who first isolated the bacterium in 1982!)
-according to the Companion Animal Parasite Council, last year in Licking county alone every 1/11 dogs tested positive for Lyme. (So far this year the rate is 1/10 and surrounding counties as high as 1/4 dogs!)
-some studies have shown that transmission of Lyme disease can occur in less than 24 hours after tick attachment, but the minimum time for transmission has not been established.
-because it can transmit so fast, consistent, quality tick preventatives are crucial to help prevent infection!
-we do have a lyme vaccine to help further prevent infection.( Ask us about it at your next visit 🙂)
-Some dogs do not show outward symptoms from lyme disease.
-noticeable symptoms range anywhere from mild to severe.
-untreated or severe forms can cause serious kidney injury, so it is very important that we test for lyme disease yearly (or after known tick bites) to catch and treat the disease.

-According to the Companion Animal Parasite Council, last year in the US every 1/100 dogs tested positive for heartworms.
-The American Heartworm Society recommends year round heartworm prevention and yearly testing. (Don't forget-our test also tests for tick-borne diseases!)

Need to get heartworm prevention, but your dog maybe hasn't been taking it every month? Don't worry! Just call one of our offices to get scheduled for a heartworm test to get restarted on prevention 😁
