Did you know that Golden Retrievers are one of the few breeds of dogs that get along with horses?

Here a few fun facts about Goldens:

🦮They came from Scotland and are known to be a noble dog.

🦮 Golden retrievers are considered to be one of the smartest dog breeds, behind the Border Collie, Poodle and German Shepherd.

🦮 There are three different types of Goldens -- English, Canadian, and American.

🦮 They are the 3rd most popular breed in America.

🦮 A couple of Golden Retrievers have made it into the Guinness Book of World Records. An Australian Golden holds the world record for the loudest bark, measured at 113.1 decibels -- 3 decibels louder than a buzzing chainsaw. Another Golden Retriever holds the record for the most tennis balls held in the mouth, at five tennis balls.

As you know, farriers are in short supply and in high demand. Here are 5 ways that you can take care of your farrier:

🧲 Have horse caught & legs brushed when they arrive. Do not groom your horse while the farrier is working on their hooves, this should be done before they arrive.
🧲 Have a flat, safe work space free of other animals(cats, dogs, etc.). Keep your farrier safe so that they continue to be able to care for your horse.
🧲 Keep routine appointments. This will ensure that your horse’s hooves are well cared for and that you remain on your farrier’s schedule.
🧲 Work with difficult/young horses. It’s not your farrier’s job to train them to pick up their feet.
🧲 Communicate well & follow their instructions. This ensures a healthy relationship between you and your farrier.

It’s a common misconception that horses can’t founder in Oregon Winters.

It is not uncommon for grasses to increase their sugar content when the sun comes out for days to weeks following moisture in the winter months.

To prevent winter foundering continue to monitor turn out time for horses that are pre-dispose to laminitis: ie. horse that have foundered in the past, over weight horses or horses with Cushings Disease.
