Peaches is still feeling all the warm fuzzies from the holidays, and loving on his sister. Soon, the holiday high will pass and they’ll go on picking on eachother like all siblings do.
BUT, our unconditional care doesn’t stop when the holiday joy fades — we still keep these little souls sheltered, warm, fed and cherished.

As a 501(c)3 nonprofit, we rely on contributions from supporters like you. This holiday season, please help us help these vulnerable animals that are incredibly intelligent and need specialized care to thrive. Visit givebutter.com/4ZC00X to donate today.

Thank you!

😢 Although we haven’t taken in any red-tailed hawks at the aviary, they are abundant in our region and anyone who drives on 131 outside of Grand Rapids regularly sees them as roadkill…

This is an important reminder not to litter to help keep nature as natural as we can…

Over the past couple of weeks we have gotten a spike in raptor patients! Although we aren't sure exactly why, we can guess that it is due to them hunting more intensively because of the fewer daylight hours and less prey abundance.

Since they are more desperate for food, they will be looking all over the place. This includes trash on the side of the roads which may attract rodents.

All of the recently admitted hawks here at the center have been struck by vehicles because of them being near the road just like patient 24-2254, this Red-tailed Hawk who was found on the road after being struck by two separate vehicles.

This post can serve as a reminder to not litter, and to pick up litter when possible.

Taking care of a companion bird is a lifelong commitment. They are not there for your entertainment, they are a member of your family. We will always do what is best for the birds in our care, including providing a permanent home for them if that’s what they need…

But we need YOUR help to continue doing this important work. As a 501(c)3 nonprofit, we rely on contributions from supporters like you. This holiday season, please help us help these vulnerable animals that are incredibly intelligent and need specialized care to thrive. Visit givebutter.com/4ZC00X to donate today. Thank you…

I know that some of you may not like our adoption process. I am not a store that you can just walk in and buy the bird you want. I am not a zoo for you to "come visit the birds". This rescue is run out of my personal residence. This is my home. I do not want a bunch of random visitors in my home. We do not have open visitation hours. I keep visits limited to only those that have been selected through our application process.

If you don't like this process, that is perfectly OK! We may not be the rescue for you. There are plenty of other rescues, breeders, and stores to get your next feathered family member from if we are not a good fit. All of which will have different processes to purchase/adopt that fits their business structure. It is important to find a place that fits your wants and needs. If that is not us, there is no reason to treat us poorly because you don't like our process.

We have used the same process since we started the rescue years ago. I have no intent to change this adoption process. It has worked well for our rescue, our birds, and the adopters we have found through our process.

Thank you for understanding!

****Note: Oscar (pictured) is one of my personal birds and NOT available for adoption. I just loved this picture of him and wanted to share. ❤️****

Help Save Albatross Aviary This Holiday Season
Grand Rapids Michigan – December 20th, 2024
This holiday season, Albatross Aviary, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating companion birds, is reaching out to the community with an urgent plea: Help us raise $25,000 by the end of the year to keep our doors open and continue our vital mission.
For years, Albatross Aviary has provided a safe haven for birds impacted by the pet trade, neglect, and abandonment. Operating as a beacon of hope, the aviary not only cares for the birds’ physical and emotional needs but also works tirelessly to educate the public about ethical avian care.
However, 2024 has brought unprecedented challenges. From financial hardships to a lack of visibility amid a busy election year, Albatross Aviary is now at risk of losing its facility—the heart of its operations.
“This is a critical time for us,” said Gairen Tembreull, founder and director of Albatross Aviary. “Without immediate support, we may have to close our doors, leaving the birds we care for—and the community we serve—without a sanctuary. We’re turning to our supporters and the public to help us save the aviary and continue our mission.”
The $25,000 fundraising goal will allow Albatross Aviary to:
Cover overdue rent and stabilize its current facility.
Provide ongoing care for rescued birds, including food, medical care, and enrichment.
Ensure the continuation of educational programs and public outreach efforts.
How to Help:
Donate: Contributions can be made online through the aviary’s fundraising campaign at https://givebutter.com/4ZC00X.
Spread the Word: Share Albatross Aviary’s story with friends, family, and on social media.
Volunteer: Join the effort by offering time, skills, or resources to support the aviary.
Why Now?
This is the season of giving, and the birds of Albatross Aviary need your support to ensure their future. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, donations are tax-deductible and directly impact the lives of rescued birds and the community outreach programs the aviary provides.
“Every donation, no matter how small, brings us closer to our goal,” added Tembreull. “Together, we can give the birds we rescue—and the aviary itself—a chance to thrive.”
