Your senior pet didn’t suddenly become “difficult” for grooming.

Their body changed.

And sometimes those changes become noticeable on the grooming table before they become obvious at home.

As pets age, they gradually lose muscle.

Their joints become stiffer.

Their spine becomes less flexible.

Their skin becomes thinner and more fragile.

Their circulation may become less efficient, especially in the legs and feet.

Their balance, coordination, and ability to reposition themselves can also decline.

So when a senior pet is standing on the grooming table, they are not just standing there.

Their body is actively working to stay upright.

That takes energy.

A grooming session they tolerated easily five years ago may now leave them tired, uncomfortable, or physically unable to continue.

This is why senior pets may need more breaks.

Shorter appointments.

Modified grooming positions.

Less time standing.

A simpler haircut.

Or, in some cases, a groom that needs to be stopped before everything is finished.

And that can be difficult for owners to understand.

Because the pet they see walking around comfortably at home may struggle in a completely different environment where they are being asked to stand, balance, reposition, lift their legs, and tolerate handling for an extended period of time.

Grooming can also uncover changes that were not previously noticed.

Lumps.

Sensitive areas.

Skin changes.

Hidden matting.

Pain when certain parts of the body are touched or moved.

The groom did not necessarily cause these problems.

Sometimes grooming is simply where they become visible.

There may also come a point when the finished groom no longer looks exactly the way it did years ago.

Because with senior pets, cosmetic perfection cannot always be the priority.

Comfort has to come first.

Safety has to come first.

And sometimes the kindest decision a groomer can make is knowing when to modify the groom, simplify the haircut, or stop.

Senior pet grooming is not about forcing an aging body to tolerate what it used to tolerate.

It is about working with the body that pet has today.

This is why clear communication, realistic expectations, and professional boundaries matter so much when grooming senior pets.

Because aging changes the risk.

What changes have you noticed in your senior pet as they’ve gotten older?

Our Refuresh Deshedding Tools work fantastic! They were designed to be gentle on your pet’s skin and coat, but remove all that pesky undercoat that seems to be everywhere but on the pet.

These tools are available for purchase in our salon for dogs, cats, and small animals. Demos are available upon request.

Today we celebrate 12 years of being in business! We purchased a run down space and failing business but had the vision of what could be and transformed it over the years to what it is now. Thank you to all our clients for your support of our small business! We couldn't have made it to 12 years without you!! Here are some original and current pictures of the salon.

🐾 A Message From Your Pet Groomer 🐾

Every day, we hear people talk about how expensive everything has become. Gas. Rent. Mortgages. Groceries. Utilities. Insurance. The cost of living continues to rise, and everyone understands that businesses must adjust to survive.

But when grooming prices increase, suddenly we’re expected to justify our worth.

What many people don’t see is what happens behind the grooming table.

They don’t see the years of education, training, certifications, and continuing education required to safely care for pets. They don’t see the investment in professional equipment, quality products, safety protocols, insurance, licensing, inspections, rent, water, electricity, maintenance, and the countless expenses that keep a salon operating.

Most importantly, they don’t see what we do for the pets themselves.

They don’t see us patiently working with the puppy who has never been groomed before and is terrified of every sound.

They don’t see us supporting senior dogs whose legs are weak and whose bodies ache.

They don’t see us helping rescue animals learn that not every human is going to hurt them.

They don’t see the dogs and cats that bite out of fear, the scratches, the bruises, the p*e, the p**p, the fur splinters, the back pain, and the physical toll this profession takes on our bodies.

And through all of it, we continue to show up with patience, kindness, and compassion.

Because we understand something important:

Your pet isn’t giving us a hard time.

They’re having a hard time.

They can’t tell us they’re scared.

They can’t explain that they’re anxious.

They can’t ask for reassurance.

So we become their advocate, their comfort, and their safe place while they’re in our care.

We speak softly.

We move patiently.

We earn their trust.

We celebrate their progress.

And we love them as if they were our own.

Professional grooming is not simply a bath and a haircut. It is skill. It is safety. It is experience. It is handling, behavior management, health observation, coat maintenance, and compassionate care wrapped into one service.

Your pet deserves more than someone who can hold clippers.

They deserve someone who understands them.

So when grooming prices increase, please remember: you’re not just paying for a groom.

You’re paying for the knowledge that keeps your pet safe.

You’re paying for the patience that helps an anxious dog succeed.

You’re paying for the experience that recognizes when something isn’t right.

You’re paying for the person who gets bitten, scratched, p*ed on, p**ped on, and still kisses your pet’s head goodbye at the end of the appointment.

Because at the end of the day, this isn’t just our job.

It’s our passion.

It’s our profession.

And it’s our privilege to care for the family member waiting for you at the door every night.

To our wonderful clients who support small grooming businesses, trust our expertise, and appreciate the work that goes into caring for your pets: THANK YOU!

We see you, we appreciate you, and we promise to continue giving your furry family members the love, patience, and care they deserve. ❤️ 🐾
